We had the good fortune of connecting with Swetha Dhanireddy and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Swetha, what was your thought process behind starting your own business?
I am a physician and mother to three young kids. Even though I have a lot of satisfaction with my patients and family, I felt like I could do more. I felt a void. I wanted to make a positive impact on bigger scale. An impact that would be long lasting and set an example for my kids. Example showing it’s more than just taking care of ourselves but also the people around us and our planet.
It has been a challenging process. But I hope to continue creating sustainable products with strong values.
What should our readers know about your business?
Swey is my passion project that I started working on in 2021 and launched 2023. It’s a clothing and home decor brand made circularly sustainable with inspirations from South Asian culture. From design to packaging to price transparency to social media, we take the health of the planet into account. Prioritizing mother Earth over profits has made this a slow and difficult process. But I take comfort in knowing that we are true to our core values.
Thus far, the journey has been a tough and bumpy ride. Many ideas and opportunities have not gone as planned. I still keep going. Go back to the drawing board and figure out where I went wrong and try again.
The biggest lesson I have learned to stay positive. To keep pushing along and trust in your mission.
I would like the world to know that this brand was created from scratch by a physician-mother on a mission to make ethical, sustainable and circular products to move the needle towards leaving the planet better than we found it.
