We had the good fortune of connecting with David Friedman and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi David, can you walk us through the thought-process of starting your business?

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
Let me start by saying “I LOVE LA” First a Teeth Whitening at SmileLabs to get there Hollywood SMILE ! In no particular order, a day trip and hang on Venice Beach and Santa Monica, Drive through Beverly Hills, The Grove with Eats at Farmers Market. I’m old school so possibly a meal at Musso & Frank’s and a brief walk on the Blvd (very touristy) One of my fav restaurant is Geoffreys in Malibu with a walk on the Beach. A day hangout downtown Olvera Street, Chinatown, Little Tokyo etc.. Getty Museum or LACMA or other depending on there particular cultural interests. On Eats – The Pantry, PINKS, BluJam, and …. too many to mention. Possible Runyan Canyon hike. A concert at The Greek or Hollywood Bowl, Disney a must if anyone is playing. Then comes sporting events, I’m a big Sports fan so anything that we could get tickets at a reasonable rate (haha). Soak up the Sun LA style !

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
I was inquiring and somewhat skeptical at first about the business, Jim Cundiff at SmileLabs Corp put me in touch with Michelle Harris in Boise, Idaho who had setup one of the first brick and mortar SmileLabs. After talking on phone for a while Michelle invited me to come down to Boise to see the operation of the store. I took her up on this and she was an amazing host and after visiting I was convinced that if this was successful in Boise, Idaho surely LA is the perfect city to have such option. There was some competition at the time but setup more like a dental office and dingy mall kiosk type places ‘Yuck”. Michelle and I became friends and she flew out for our opening weekend. An amazing person that has since sold her SmileLabs in Boise to move to another city and enjoy a new career. The second person I would like to thank is my business partner Shadi Beral who has taken the business to another level over the past 7 years. She is not only hardworking, business savvy but a wonderful person!
