We had the good fortune of connecting with henry Camarillo and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi henry, can you tell us more about your background and the role it’s played in shaping who you are today?
I was born and raised in Los Angeles in N.E.L.A North East Los Angeles to be specific, in a beautifull small town of El Sereno. As far as how my upbringing and how it impacted me was through my amazing family and the community I grew up in, with old school traditions of a being humble, respectful and love all and everyone. Till this day I keep these traits close to heart and continue to represent them my coffee business.
Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
Im currently self employed and going nine months strong in pop ups and private catering events with my coffee business “No Days Off” cafe, I’ve been doing coffee professionally now for roughly four years now working at fast paced cafes in the past and my pop ups. I’ve fallen in love with coffee unexpectedly because of my old job working in EMS Emergency Medical Services as a EMT Emergency Medical Technician for 8+ years up in Paramount/Compton area. I worked with a solid crew of 8 dudes at a house stationed in Paramount where I took it upon myself to caffeinate my brothers and accidentally fell down the rabbit hole of the crazy coffee world and all of the methods and different bean types origins of beans and the rituals of it all! Ultimately i didn’t just fall in love with coffee I fell in love with the process of making an amazing cup of coffee for the people I simply cared for on our grueling 24-48 hour shifts, needless to say working these crazy amount of hours sometimes even working 100 hours a week we felt we had No Days Off…. if making a good cup of joe meant my crew can push through these hrs a little more easy I was all about it and was happy to brew it!
If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
I love this cafe up in long Beach called Good Times so that would be a must first thing in the morning, as far as food we gotta hit up my friends either at Quarantine Pizza or Evil cooks over at smorgasbord on Sunday for there unique and amazing food, for drinks I highly recommend Strong Water or the Blind rabbit up in Anaheim, you will not be disappointed
Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
My good friends at quarantine Pizza Co, an amazing humble loving couple that are hardworking and make a damn good sourdough pizza, it’s currently a small pop up business but I know they’ll be able to open up a shop soon.
