What’s the end goal?

It’s easy to get caught up in the day to day, but it’s important to stop ask: what’s the end goal? Knowing where you are trying to go is step one in getting there and so we’ve asked some folks we admire to tell us their end goal and where they want to be by the end of their careers.

I don’t have a set end goal in my career. It’s all about Faith and embracing the unknown journey. Whether I’m playing drums for another decade or it all ends tomorrow, I’m grateful for the opportunity to have been a professional musician for over 10 years. I love this question! Probably because I just figured out what my ultimate goal is. I want my novels to become so lucrative that I have more than enough to purchase this building on Market Street in Inglewood, California. I’ve been walking by this place since I was ten years old. It used to be a book store, I believe. I used to run my index finger across the glass, wishing I could snatch one of the turquoise rings out of their showcase box. That building housed my two first loves: Books and Jewelry. A full circle moment for me would be to convert that structure into a space where I can host Sip and Reads, Tequila Tastings, Line Dancing, Speed Dating, Foreign Language Studies, Jewelry Making, and whatever else this brain can come up with! It’s funny to think about the end when I feel like I’ve barely broke the surface of the beginning. Thinking about the end makes me reflect on the beginning and the changes that have brought me into my now eighth year of making photographs. The end goal becomes clearer with progression, but muddled all the same. Do I want to survive on it? Do I want to be in the papers? on the red carpet? Do I want to be academic? Do I want my work in museums, to be considered as part of that official “cannon” of photography’s history? All of these thoughts confuse it as much as they provide guidance towards next steps.
