We had the good fortune of connecting with Julie breaux and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Julie, what led you to pursuing a creative path professionally?
So 20+ years ago we built our home and after it was completed and time to move in and decorate I wanted to add artwork to my walls.. I knew I loved color and texture so I decided to take a leap and buy some supplies and creat my own artworks!!
Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
My art is bright, bold and cheery! I started out on my own just playing with acrylic paint on canvas.. I knew I loved color and texture so made abstract paintings of that!! My family at the time had a restaurant downtown Lafayette and a friend encouraged me to hang some of my art there.. so I created enough paintings to put up an exhibit there for “Festival International” 2001 I believe it was and the first time I showed my work to the world I sold a piece to woman in California for $450!!! I was so excited and knew this is something I wanted to do!! Not long after that I was invited to show my work in a gallery in New Orleans, Ariodante! I received so much exposure there and sold paintings all over the country/world!! It’s been a passion of mine ever since..!! I no longer work with galleries but sell my work on social media Facebook and Instagram!!
If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
Well I’m also and yoga/Pilates Instructor at GOodwolf Power Yoga studio so I’d invite them to come to a class with me then have lunch at one of our wonderful local restaurants,..We have the best cuisine in the country ! Maybe take them to a few local galleries then of course to see my work!!!
Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
I am surrounded and inspired by my family, friends and South Louisiana culture!
