We had the good fortune of connecting with Blake Zirpel and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Blake, how do you think about risk?
I think calculating risk is a critical factor in any artist or entrepreneur’s success. With that being said I think %95 of people do not take enough risks In life and therefore put themselves in was less opportune positions. I also don’t think that means anyone with a dream should just quit their job and expect success right away. But in the end the most successful people are always a little delusional and make riskier choices based on that delusion. This will cost you failing, being laughed at, and being told it will never work out, but staying delusional enough and being persistence will bring success in front of your own eyes and others! Life is not a race against others it’s a competition against yesterdays you. You have to fail enough times to know when to take risks. So it all comes down to how bad you want it and how much gas is in your tank.

Risk taking as been a huge roll in my career and a great teacher. I’ve always been eager to jump at opportunity most times falling short and failing. To this day it has taught me the most patience and persistence. These failed risks led me to build a long term plan and mental endurance. I started to count my failure as opportunities rather than a detriment, this is when things started to change in my career!

Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
Im a recording artist and producer. I record and produce all my own tracks as well as songwriting and production for other artists. I create Jazz/Lofi hiphop music similar to Mac Miller and Earl sweatshirt. I think what sets me apart is the time I spend on the process and the message i’m spreading. I really love being a good person which can be cheesy but I think thats maybe what the world needs more of right now. In terms of my career i’ve had to fight and claw for every little foothold i’ve ever gotten and also had to sacrifice a lot. But everyday I wake up I have purpose in my life, It’s that thing that gets me out of my bed in the morning. I may not have a lot but I have enough. I think media and social media has become so distant from real life and real people that I just hope when anyone listens to my songs you feel the honesty and little bit of love i’ve left in there for you.

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
My favorite spots in LA are Malibu and Bronson cave and trails. For one its free, I don’t know anyone that doesn’t like that. Two its just super peaceful and very beautiful.

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
There are several people that all deserve a shoutout in terms of support and mentorship. That being said i’d love to shout out my brother and my family for always being so real and supportive. Theres a lot of days in these industries where the negative shit gets to you and consumes what you’ve created, Im lucky enough to somehow always get a text or a call at the worst of my times. I remember when I first started making music id send every track to my brother for his input because I was unsure of my own music and vulnerable. I think it’s really crucial to have a group of people close to you that will believe in you when you don’t believe in yourself like my brother would always do for me. But most importantly you need people that will be real with you when no one else will, which is something I think a lot of people lack, and something that makes me even more grateful for my brother. I remember when I first started making music i’d send every track to my brother for his input because I knew it was real no fluff. It gave me this great outlet to learn how to take and build on constructive criticism, and also know who’s speaking out out of love for you building your craft, and people that say things because they’re unhappy with their own lives. I thinks it’s very fundamental to have someone honest and hopefully a good taste in music to help you steer through the comments and critics. Too many people stop doing something because someone else said it was bad, it takes time to create masterpieces, and become a master. Thats why i’m so thankful for the team and people I have around me.
