Meet Jessica Liem | Baker

We had the good fortune of connecting with Jessica Liem and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Jessica, how has your perspective on work-life balance evolved over time?
I think this is the one thing most people struggle and I still very much struggle with. Starting your own thing is definitely not easy and the biggest challenge apart from managing a work life balance is being my biggest cheerleader. I will be lying if I say I work my day job and side hustle and my other day jobs (because doing my own thing requires me to pick up about 3 jobs to sustain a living in this economy) and maintain some social life, self care are an easy tasks. Sleep is where I’m lacking but having some sort of healthy outlet is key for me to be able to do this. I think self care for me is key from the burnout and that can look like having a consistent work out schedule or even “fun baking”.

Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
Baking has always been my passion for as long as I can remember, well food actually is a big passion of mine but specifically baking. I think I am most proud of my current project/brand “take whisks”. Having to take a chance/ risks (name pun) has been one of my most proud moments in my professional life. I learned a lot about myself and still am continue to learn from this experience. I am looking forward to where this project will bloom into.

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
drinks and night fun will be downtown Hermosa (tower 12) day time activities will be a nice long hike at Griffith Park
foods – all depends on who is my crowd but my favorite go to ramen spot is Tsujita Annex and a good hand pulled noodle spot called Bang Bang Noodle (I love noodles)
my favorite donut shop is Sidecar Doughnuts!!

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
I cannot pick just one person to give a shout out to because I am very fortunate to have a group of very supportive friends and family. My parents and brother. My friends Parisa, Jenn, Charlie, Tony, Tori, Kevin, Alex, and many more I can go on.
I do want to give a special shout out to my dear friend Obi, who is always cheering me up, helping me with some of creative thought process, bagged/tagged/boxed countless of baked goods, just giving me the best resource a person can give me and that is his precious time.
