Meet Lindsay Olson | Owner & Founder of Lulu Designs

We had the good fortune of connecting with Lindsay Olson and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Lindsay, how do you think about risk?
I am an introvert in all ways and am pretty conservative when it comes to decision-making. But, when it comes to taking risks in my business, I’m game. As an entrepreneur, risk comes with the territory. Taking risks is part of the definition of entrepreneurship and is part of the vulnerability so it doesn’t seem like risk-taking is a conscious-decision. Being a creative, it is risky to put your heart on your sleeve and essentially vomit my heart for each client presentation, hoping all is well-received. I push my clients to do things differently and push them out of their comfort zone. So, in conclusion, risks are a daily way of life here at Lulu Designs.

Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
My niche in interior design is designing for my clients for their unique wants and desires. My talent is God-given so it is innate, making it so much more exciting to tailor all choices to my clients rather than giving them my own distinct style. This has given me career longevity and staying power in a fickle industry.
The most valuable lesson I have learned is that it is best to follow my own creative intuition and that it never steers me wrong, from the type of client to say yes to, to the actual selections I make for each client, along with the business decisions I make or am about to make.
Lulu Designs’ brand is built on ingenuity, creation and one-of-a-kind clients who get what they want, not my style pushed on to them.

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
Since I live in Orange County, I’d make sure to hit the Farmer’s Markets either at Newport pier and/or at the OCC Fairgrounds. I’d make sure the usual haunts are all hit: Balboa Island with a trip on the ferry, a walk and shop through Lido Village and eat at both landmarks, the Cannery for brunch, and coffee at Alta Coffee. There are so many great eateries, Oceanfront 21 for the traditional steak and martini with a view at Sunset, Louie’s on the Bay, and a little night life at A’s Market.

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
My shoutout is dedicated to all of the my previous, existing and potential clients. Previous because I wouldn’t be able to have learned so much from each of the completed projects as well as the existing clients, who allow me to push boundaries creatively in real time. To the potential clients, I see you and can’t wait to meet you. These clients really push me to learn, stay informed of industry standards and trends as well as grow creatively to manifest the types of projects I want to design.
