Meet Bruce Samia | Artist and Surface Designer

We had the good fortune of connecting with Bruce Samia and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Bruce, we’d love to hear more about how you thought about starting your own business?
I decided to start my business as a way of getting my pattern and surface designs out to the general public. I am a paper collage and digital collage artist.
I began experimenting with repeating patterns and designs from my digital collages.
I decided on producing a line of limited edition silk-scarves to achieve this goal.
It took about 2 years to learn about silks, find manufacturers and get samples.

Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
Being an artist is never easy for anyone. A daily barrage of questioning everything we put to paper or canvas or fabric.
All my collages and silk-scarf works are designed using my personal photography and art works.
As for my scarves, they are produced in limited editions of 35 units each.
The road to being an “artist” is a tough, but extremely rewarding journey.
With my art, i try and create “landscapes” and “tableaus” without perspective.
I, like most artists am a story-teller.
The idea behind my art work is, so that when someone is viewing the works, an image or a scribble or or a photo will trigger a memory they once had, thus making the works their own story.
When a piece of mine is finished, i have already told my own story.
My work is designed to awaken in your mind:
A piece of a dream remembered,
A thought passing through,
A quick turn of your head,
A memory lost,
or a conversation once had.
They are fragments of a moment in time.
Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
I had a very dear friend named Barbara. She recognized in me my eye for color and design.
We shared a love of textiles and i begin to collect textiles from around the world.
The best influence i had in my life was from my Mid-Eastern heritage.
The fabrics, the colors and patterns of even daily life were a huge influence on my style., and of course my mother who encouraged me to be the bast i can be.
