We had the good fortune of connecting with GIMS and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi GIMS, we’d love to hear about how you approach risk and risk-taking
Risk-taking has always been integral to my journey as an artist. I believe in pushing boundaries and venturing into uncharted territory to discover new avenues of creativity and expression. Throughout my career, I’ve embraced risks as opportunities for growth and innovation, allowing me to continually evolve as an artist and connect with audiences on a deeper level.
Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
My art is a fusion of Afro-French heritage and global sounds, it’s a unique experience. I’m currently excited to play Madison Square Garden on November 2nd, it will give me more time with my American fans. There have been challenges but with my team and fans’ support i’ve been able to overcome all adversity. My music transcends borders, serving as a bridge between diverse cultures. It’s a testament to authenticity, innovation, and cultural fusion, echoing my journey and values. I’m committed to sharing this narrative with the world, one that celebrates unity and the power of music to connect us all.
Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
Well, if we’re in LA, we’d have to stay in Beverly Hills for sure. We’d probably dine on a rooftop for views, then catch a Lakers game at Crypto Arena for sure. During the day either shopping on Rodeo, or a trip to Malibu for the beach and Nobu. There’s plenty to do in LA though day or night.
Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
I’m grateful to have been surrounded by musical influences from a young age. My journey in music is intertwined with my family’s heritage, particularly my father, Djanana Djuna, who served as the singer of Papa Wemba’s Viva La Musica troupe. Arriving in France at the age of two, alongside my parents, who were then foreigners, laid the foundation for my passion for music and performance. From mentors and collaborators to fans and industry professionals, their support has been instrumental in my success.
