Meet Shaylee Eldridge | Hair Stylist

We had the good fortune of connecting with Shaylee Eldridge and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Shaylee, can you tell us about a book that has had a meaningful impact on you?
One of my all time favorite books that I’ve read is “Girl, Wash Your Face”, by Rachel Hollis. One of key concepts in this book that stood out to me was to stop comparing myself to others and to embrace my individuality. It’s easy to compare ourselves to others and measure our self-worth based on other’s achievements, especially with social media. This can lead to negative self talk and insecurity which only prolongs our own personal growth.
Another thing I took away was to be responsible for my own happiness and not rely on external circumstances. I now make it a priority to focus on self care and pursuing the things that make me happy.

Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
As a hairstylist, my dedication to understanding each client’s unique needs and hair goals sets me apart. I prioritize open communication and collaboration to ensure I deliver personalized results that exceed expectations. Additionally, I am committed to staying updated on the latest hair trends and color techniques with continued advance education.
I’m most proud of the relationships I’ve built with my clients over the last 15 years. In 2020, I made the move from Nine Zero One in West Hollywood to my own private studio in Hermosa Beach after 11 years of being with the brand. The majority of my clients made the move with me and I’ve continued to grow with new clients in the South Bay as well. It is beyond humbling to see their loyalty and trust in my work. It’s a true testament to the relationships we’ve built and the satisfaction they’ve experienced. I’m grateful for their continued support.

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
The South Bay community is a true gem in LA county. It’s known for its laid-back beach vibes and active outdoor lifestyle. You can start your day with a stroll along The Strand, a scenic beachfront walkway offering beautiful ocean views that takes you through Manhattan and Hermosa Beach. After that, grab some breakfast at my personal favorite breakfast/lunch spot, Gumtree Cafe on Pier Avenue. Plus, Gumtree has a gift shop right next door to the cafe with the cutest things.
Another great lunch spot up the road on Pier Ave is Source Cafe with healthy wraps and salads, perfect for those with dietary restrictions. From here, I would walk down to Hermosa Pier for a refreshing cocktail at Palmilla. Known for their long list of fresh cocktails and warm tortillas and honey butter, you’re sure to have a great time.
South Bay boasts a thriving food scene, from casual beachside eateries to upscale dining options. My personal favorite in Hermosa Beach is Bottle Inn. It’s one of the few spots you can see the sand while you enjoy some pasta and vino with family and friends.
Heading up towards Manhattan Beach, there are some great upscale restaurants such as the The Arthur J, SLAY Steak & Fish House, and Love & Salt. There are also many cool local dive bars. My favorite being Ercoles, where i met my husband, Brian. There is also Shellback Tavern where you are sure to leave with a trucker hat or two.It looks right out to the Manhattan Beach Pier with a little aquarium on the end.
A short drive east of the water in Redondo Beach, is a neighborhood bar called Paddy O’Brien’s Irish Pub up Aviation Blvd. The newest place I love if you like Tiki bars is The Hula Hula Room in Torrance. Grab a mai tai before dinner with the girls.
Make sure to check out the breathtaking sunsets, there is nothing like the California coastline.

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
I would love to dedicate my shout out to my mom, Jodi Blatz. She’s been doing hair for over 40 years and is the hardest worker I know. I look up to her for the way she balanced being a present mom to my brothers and I while working full time and never complained.
At 63, she still works full time and is the best Grandma to my two kids. She even has a special day with them every week to help us out and it’s so special to watch their bond. I’m forever grateful for the values and work ethic she taught me in and outside the salon.
