Meet Caitlin Meek | Trauma Informed Pilates Instructor, Nuero Coach & Akashic Practitioner

We had the good fortune of connecting with Caitlin Meek and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Caitlin, we’d love to hear more about how you thought about starting your own business?
I had a desire to be of service and support people. Currently my business has different offerings, but I started out teaching Pilates one on one. I came to Pilates at age 27 during a painful time in my life, not long after my then partner committed suicide in our home. Crushed, grieving and in despair I dove into my healing journey with therapy. I also intuitively knew that my body needed attention and was concerned about the stress I was physically housing. Somehow even then, I knew I didn’t want his suicide to be the biggest part of my life, but simply a part of my life. In addition to my therapy, I attended to my body with Pilates and massage.
Moving forward a few years, I felt a desire that I could no longer ignore. I that wondered what my life would be like if I left corporate work and went into healing work for others. Eventually, I did just that. 14 years ago, I got my Pilates certification and began working in my best friends Chiropractic office, in Beverly Hills.
I believe we are evolutionary beings at our core. My work has evolved a great deal since I first started, as well as my knowledge base and skillset. As I worked with clients over the years, I noticed how the body is a vessel for our past. I noticed how much tension patterns, stress, inner narratives and mental health are interconnected.
Additionally, I had a deep curiosity to explore myself as a soul, consciousness and spirituality. I became an Akashic practitioner 9 years ago. I never wanted my spiritual work and exploration to bypass my human experience however, so I learned about the nervous system, attachment theory and somatic work.
I continue to work with the body, however now it incorporates a broad base of knowledge like neuroscience based techniques for chronic pain, trauma informed somatic movement, spirituality and more.
Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
My work is trauma oriented using both a neuroscience and somatic/body based approach. When we work mindfully, with a clear intention of what we’re doing and why, we can access and make new connections and pathways in the brain. We can relieve stress and pain. I describe my work as body oriented and restorative in nature. I don’t see mental health, our bodies and spirituality as separate, but a part of our whole human experience.
I’m where I am because I want to make my work informative, potent and transformative. My desire is to give people access and agency in their bodies . When it comes to navigating trauma, anxiety, depression and chronic stress, movement and mindfulness affects us at a neurological, physiological, and psychological level.
If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
Griffith Park for a scenic hike of the city, for sure! After the hike, I’d cruise down to El Condor in Silverlake, for a post hike fish taco platter. If someone was visiting in the summer, I’d highly recommend a show at the Greek Theatre for outdoor music under the stars. Also to check out would be some museums downtown, like The Broad, Moca or Hauser & Wirth. Follow Hauser & Wirth with the museum bookstore and dinner at Manuela. The arts district has some of the best food in LA right now. I’d also have to recommend my local Studio City farmers market, of course. Last but not least, definitely make it out to the coast whether it be Venice, Santa Monica Tower 26/Ocean Park neighborhood, or Malibu.
The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
I’d love to give a shoutout to my closest friends, who have held and supported me like family. Jim Rudolph, my former hypnotherapist, who became a mentor and dear friend, was integral on my healing journey and the first person to show me unconditional love. Sadly, he’s no longer living. To all the clients who along the years who allowed themselves to be vulnerable and taught me so much. Also to Helen Vonderheide and Leah Garza for their exceptional work teaching the Akashic records. And also to note, Leah’s work in decolonial studies. The year long class she leads called Living Systems, is forever transformative.
