We had the good fortune of connecting with Michelle Benz and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Michelle, do you have some perspective or insight you can share with us on the question of when someone should give up versus when they should keep going?
One of my favorite quotes is “Do not fear failure but rather fear not trying” I truly do believe that persistence is the most valuable and necessary virtue of a successful entrepreneur. My Dad always taught me to look at the “Big Picture”. Whenever I had a big decision to make he would ask me “What’s the worst that could happen? And can you handle it?” This has been ingrained in my brain and helped me to not give up on my dreams. My Persistence, Vision and Drive have kept me going through the hard parts to get to the rewards. When times do get hard I weigh out the pros and cons. If it seems that my decision will not be the best for me, then I’ve learned to that if I fail to quit, then I will fail to learn.

Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
My calling was to be an Esthetician. I absolutely love what I do and am very passionate about skincare. My favorite part is building the relationships, gaining the trust of my clients and seeing the results! My goal is always to provide the best service and experience possible. I love customizing my treatments and home care routines to give my clients the best results. I feel that I am not doing my job right if my clients are not seeing improvement and a difference in their skin. I specialize in Chemical peels and Microdermabrasion for Anti-aging, Acne and Hyperpigmentation. My background is in Medical Aesthetics and I continue to work part-time at a Med Spa with a cosmetic surgeon as well. I have worked very hard to get where I am today. Opening my own skincare studio has been a dream come true. I have spent the last 17 years dedicated to my career, education and building my clientele. I was working 7 days a week the last couple years to make my dream a reality. I want to continue to provide exceptional service and education on the importance of skincare and sun protection. I am here to help my clients look and feel their best. I am so proud to now have my own business but I am now learning to have work/life balance. Being a small business owner has allowed me to take a little time out for myself and to be able to spend more time with family. This has helped me be my best self and skin care therapist to my clients.

Any great local spots you’d like to shoutout?
Some of my favorite places to go locally Brunch at the Langham Hotel in Pasadena and walking around their beautiful gardens. I love walking around Old Town Pasadena. They have the best shops and a fun atmosphere. Mi Piace Italian restaurant is another favorite with the best Vanilla Lattes and Espresso Martinis! The Huntington Gardens is another must see. One of the highlights in the area. So beautiful and always something new to see. Bodega Wine Bar at Paseo Colorado would be my recommendation for a night cap. Such a fun place with great wines, food and people. I met my husband of 7 years there and Bodega will forever hold a place in our hearts.

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
I am where I am today because of the love, support and encouragement of my Family and Husband. I am so thankful to have such an amazing support system. A special thank you to my Dad, Mom and my husband Bryan for always having my back.
