Meet Marina Furko | Pawsome Tails

We had the good fortune of connecting with Marina Furko and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Marina, we’d love to hear more about how you thought about starting your own business?
My journey into entrepreneurship was inspired by my beloved dog, Harley. About six years ago, when he came into my life as my first furry companion, it sparked a newfound passion within me. I immediately engaged deeply with the vibrant Dog Mom community, creating an Instagram account dedicated to him. As I explored further into this world, I found myself constantly browsing and purchasing adorable accessories for Harley.
However, it wasn’t long before I felt the desire to contribute something of my own creation to this community. Thus, the idea to start crafting accessories for Harley and his furry pals began to take shape. In the initial stages, I purchased a sewing machine and embarked on a journey of self-learning, taking a few sewing lessons to hone my skills.
With newfound confidence in my abilities, I started creating bandanas for Harley and his friends. Witnessing the joy these personalized accessories brought to them was incredibly rewarding. Almost three years ago, fueled by my passion for dogs and the creative process, I officially launched Pawsome Tails.
Being part of this wonderful community has been an enriching experience, and I’m grateful for the opportunity to contribute to it in my own unique way.

Alright, so for those in our community who might not be familiar with your business, can you tell us more?
My company, Pawsome Tails, sells modern, authentic accessories for dogs. We’re all about creating something unique, whether it’s through custom prints or themed boxes, to set ourselves apart from others in the market.
What sets us apart isn’t just our products, but our mission to help dogs from shelters. This community changed my mindset completely, and we even adopted our second dog through it. I’m incredibly proud of the amazing community I’ve built around my brand over time. Many of our models aren’t from LA, but we’re so close-knit, it’s like we’ve known each other in real life. Local models always support me during events, and I cherish the opportunity to meet them and their humans, and of course, to hug their pups.
The most challenging part for me is balancing being a small business owner with family life. Many weekends, I’ve had to choose work over spending time with my loved ones. Finding that balance remains an ongoing challenge, but I’m committed to making it work.
What I want the world to know about Pawsome Tails is that we’re a brand that cares deeply about every customer. We love seeing your dog’s adventures and how our products bring you joy. Additionally, we’re dedicated to supporting rescues and helping puppies who aren’t as fortunate.

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
For my friend’s visit to Los Angeles, which is all about enjoying time with their dogs, we’ll embark on a journey that embraces dog-friendly spots.
Beginning with a stroll along the Marina Del Rey waterfront, we’ll soak in the picturesque views before heading to Playa Vista Dog Park for some off-leash fun under the California sun.
Our lunch stop will be Lazy Dog Cafe, where our pups are as welcome as we are, ensuring a satisfying meal for all.
After a satisfying meal, we’ll venture to Trancas Canyon Park in Malibu for a relaxed hike with stunning views.
Wrapping up our day, we’ll head to Huntington Dog Beach for some beachside fun, letting the dogs run free in the sand and surf. It’s sure to be a memorable experience for all!

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
I want to give a big thanks to everyone who’s been a part of my journey and helped me along the way.
First off, I gotta shout out my husband, Roman. He’s been there for me since day one, from brainstorming ideas to tackling the daily grind of running the business. His support has been my rock, keeping me going when things got tough. I couldn’t have done it without him.
Big thanks also to all the models who’ve embraced my brand. Their passion and hard work bring my creations to life and keep me inspired to keep pushing forward.
I’ve gotta give a special shoutout to Vivian and Bonnie from Positive Management. When they reached out to offer me a spot at their dog event, it was a game-changer. Their faith in my brand gave me the chance to showcase my work to the awesome LA dog mom community. Their support has been huge in growing both my business and our community.
To everyone who’s been there for me, whether it’s with support, advice, or just a kind word, thank you. Your help and encouragement mean the world to me, and I’m so grateful for each and every one of you.
