We had the good fortune of connecting with Pablo Ortiz and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Pablo, why did you decide to pursue a creative path?
I tried a lot of things through the years, but music was always there in some way. I started very young which is a privilege and an advantage. I studied Classical percussion and now I am focused on my Jazz studies. While studying, a lot of doubts appeared. I was almost certain I wanted to become a professional musician, but at some degree I had the curiosity of following another path. However, the feeling of playing in places like the National Auditory of Madrid in front of thousands of people, or the countless sleepless nights at the studio to flourish my work, It’s unmatched.
I believe music It’s not just organaised sound, music can be a weapon, It’s a little piece of yourself, It’s your legacy. It’s an expression of the way you might be living, your enviroment and surroundings. It is sometimes the only way of getting to be heard, and probably the best one.
The potential of and in music is immeasurable, but it’s often missjudged and missunderstood,
Due to this, I decided to dedicate myself to music.

Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
I never wanted to specialize in a genre of music or an specific artistic role. I have classical music studies but now I am studying Jazz at a much higher level. However I have taken part in artistic perfomances in spaces like the EstArt Gallery with a contemporary approach. I work as a Producer, and I also work as an Audio Technician and Sound Engineer. I have recorded, produced, mixed and mastered Hip-Hop albums like Delta by Manget, nonetheless I’ve done the same with Classical Music like La Luz by Guiomar Ortiz.
In my opinion versatility is one of the best skills to get. I never had to much resources so I had to learn this the hard way. I have to profit the best as I can my tools, for I sometimes don’t have the right ones. I had to learn several skills since my team consist of a few friends. I also had to learn to be flexible and adaptive in order to face all sorts of circumstances. And most importantly, I had to learn to figth for my work because no one else is going to do it for me.
I am currently working on my next album with Manget, Romance Castellano, which will be out in a few months. And also on an instrumental album inspired by producers like Madlib.

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
I could recommend touristic places, but as a local I have my own preferences. One of my favourite places to eat is Las Bravas, which is a traditional restaurant with great variety of dishes and great atmosphere. Food-wise, another excelent place is La Cerveceria Cervantes, which is one of the best bars where beer is served in Madrid. Something I really enjoy doing in Madrid is walking. Every neighborhood has something different to offer, either different architecture, shops or cultures. But if I had to choose one unique activity to do, will be going crate digging or record hunting. The best places to do it would be on local shops or El Rastro flea market. In Spain we have loads of music diversity and in record stores you can find old music that is not published anywhere. I sometimes spend entire afternoons with friends looking for new music. I would strongly recommend it to a music enthusias.I could recommend touristic places, but as a local I have my own preferences.
