Hi Onika, we’d love to hear more about how you thought about starting your own business?
I literally started my business in 2020 with $300 & a dream. I was a struggling nail tech tired of ordering from other companies that cheaped out on products & TO FOREVER to ship. Especially monomer, I couldn’t work when that was delayed & the only nail supply I had available near me was Sally’s Beauty Supply. It’s like $40 for a 4oz of monomer.. being fed up I had a little rant with my boyfriend about everything, he suggested “why not open your own nail supply store?” At the time I thought he was insane but I stayed up all night doing research & talking to other business owners I knew who then encouraged me to created my most popular acrylic color Macchiato & the rest is history.

I opened my shop officially 5/20 & sold out instantly.

One key lesson we’ve learned is the importance of staying true to our vision while being adaptable to market changes. This balance has allowed us to grow steadily and maintain a loyal customer base. Additionally, fostering a strong online community has been crucial; social media and direct customer feedback have helped us refine our offerings and build trust.

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
If my best friend were visiting for a week, I’d want to ensure they have an unforgettable experience filled with the best sights, flavors, and experiences the area has to offer. Here’s how I’d plan the itinerary:

Day 1: Arrival and Relaxation
* Morning: Pick them up from the airport and head to a cozy brunch spot, like Lovebirds Cafe & Bakery, known for its delicious pastries and fresh coffee.

* Afternoon: Check-in at a charming boutique hotel downtown. Spend the afternoon relaxing and catching up at a local café, perhaps Café Mocha, with its artisanal pastries and tranquil ambiance.

* Evening: Dinner at Eataly Italian Restaurant for authentic pasta dishes and a welcoming atmosphere.

Day 2: Exploring Downtown
* Morning: Start with a visit to the local Farmers’ Market to enjoy fresh produce and local crafts.

* Afternoon: Tour the city’s historical district, including a visit to the City Museum which offers a fascinating look at the area’s past.

* Evening: Head to the trendy rooftop bar, Sky Lounge, for cocktails and panoramic views of the city.

Throughout the week, we’d encounter interesting people from local artists to passionate chefs, making the experience even more enriching. This itinerary showcases the best of what the area has to offer, ensuring a memorable and enjoyable visit.

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
1st My mother of course! She’s my strength when I feel like I don’t have any & always my voice of reason & encouragement. 2nd my boyfriend without him I don’t think I would’ve had the courage to even open my business, I second guess myself & my abilities a lot & he’s always there to keep me on track & let me know I CAN when my head tells me I can’t. & last but not least my customers! Some of the most amazing nail techs ever. I’m always in awe seeing what gorgeous designs they come up with using PLUGD Acrylics.
