Meet Joseph Brooks | Music Producer & Songwriter

We had the good fortune of connecting with Joseph Brooks and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Joseph, what’s the most important lesson your business/career has taught you?
Having a career as a Music Producer and songwriter has taught me that using your voice and platforms is extremely important.

Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
I faced challenges during the pandemic, particularly after relocating from New York to Los Angeles in 2020. The isolation initially made it difficult to collaborate and network.
However, things have improved recently. I’ve been busy writing and producing songs for various artists, and I’ve found a strong sense of community by connecting with musicians online through social media.
My journey has taught me the importance of adaptability and perseverance in pursuing my passion for music.
Recently I’ve been expanding into some acting! I was an extra in an indie film by Josh Vanbatenburg called “Day Dreaming About Love”.
I was part of the music production (mixing and mastering) for the song “Close to Me” by Dunkmoda & Michaela Jill Murphy who is best known for her work as the voice of Toph in the original animated Nickelodeon series Avatar the Last Airbender. You can catch me as one of the actors in the music video once it comes out!

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
If I had friends visiting for a week, this is what the itinerary could look like.
Day 1: Start the day with a morning hike and run in Runyon Canyon to enjoy panoramic views of LA. In the evening, head out to catch an improv comedy show for some laughs and entertainment.
Day 2: Lunch at a cozy Thai restaurant like Night + Market for delicious flavors, followed by a visit to the Grove for some shopping and entertainment.
Day 3: Explore the vibrant nightlife scene with live music at venues like The Troubadour or The Roxy Theatre.
Day 4: Indulge in a culinary adventure at Grand Central Market, sampling diverse cuisines from around the world.
Day 5: Discover the artsy side of LA with a visit to The Getty Center or The Broad Museum.
Day 6: Spend a relaxing day at Santa Monica Beach, followed by a visit to June Shine Bar for some refreshing hard kombucha. Afterwards, enjoy a swim at the iconic Roosevelt Hotel pool.
Day 7: Enjoy dinner at sunset at Yamashiro, overlooking the cityscape. Then, wrap up the trip with a memorable evening of bar-hopping, starting at the historic Roosevelt Hotel and ending at the chic bars of the W Hotel. After a late night out, recharge with classic comfort food at Mel’s Diner or Canter’s Deli.
Day 8: On Friday, immerse in the soulful rhythms of jazz at LACMA’s Jazz Night. Relax with wine and indulge in charcuterie and picnic-style snacks, enhancing the evening’s ambiance under the starlit sky. It’s the perfect way to wind down and savor the last night of the LA adventure.

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
Shoutout to my musical mentor “!llmind”. I was mentored by him in 2018 in Brooklyn, New York to help enhance my music production skills. !llmind, a pioneering music producer in hip-hop and R&B, has collaborated with industry icons like Kanye West, Drake, and J. Cole.
