We had the good fortune of connecting with Talayeh Tabriz and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Talayeh, we’d love for you to start things off by telling us something about your industry that we and others not in the industry might be unaware of?
One thing about the dietetics industry that outsiders might not be aware of is the extensive education and training that registered dietitians undergo. Registered dietitians must complete a rigorous academic program, including a bachelor’s degree in dietetics or a related field, a Master’s degree in Nutritional Science, followed by a supervised internship that typically lasts about 1200 hours. This training is essential as it equips dietitians with the clinical knowledge to manage complex medical conditions through dietary interventions. Specifically in the realm of digestive disorders, registered dietitians play a crucial role in developing personalized nutrition plans that help manage symptoms, improve quality of life, and even modify disease progression. This specialized expertise and clinical training distinguish registered dietitians significantly from other nutrition professionals. Many people claim they are nutrition experts but do not have the educational background or credentials of a Registered Dietitian Nutritionist (RDN).

Alright, so for those in our community who might not be familiar with your business, can you tell us more?
My private practice specializes in nutritional therapy for digestive disorders, an area where I feel a profound connection due to my own struggles with gut issues. What sets my practice apart is the personalized approach I take with each client, focusing not just on alleviating symptoms but on enhancing their overall quality of life, especially their ability to travel and enjoy life’s pleasures despite their health challenges.

Starting my own practice was far from easy. Transitioning from a structured clinical setting to the unpredictability of managing a business required a steep learning curve. I faced challenges such as having to advertise to attract new clients and establishing my own business processes. However, I overcame these hurdles by leveraging my network, continuously educating myself, and maintaining a clear vision of the kind of practice I wanted to build—one centered on patient empowerment and evidence-based care.

One of the most valuable lessons I’ve learned is the importance of resilience and adaptability. Being open to change and ready to pivot strategies when necessary has been crucial. Additionally, the importance of building and maintaining strong relationships has been a cornerstone of my practice’s success, providing both support and opportunities for growth.

I want the world to know that my brand is built on a foundation of compassion, expertise, and a relentless commitment to improving lives. Through my practice, I want to demonstrate that managing a digestive disorder does not have to limit one’s enjoyment of life and that with the right dietary strategy, my clients can lead vibrant, fulfilling lives.

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
For a week-long trip in Los Angeles with my best friend, I’d plan an itinerary that combines the natural beauty of the area with its vibrant culture and culinary excellence. We’d start with a hike in the Santa Monica Mountains and enjoy the breathtaking views. Post-hike we would visit Gladstone’s on PCH to have the best clam chowder ever!

A day on the water would be a must!. We would get a boat rental and explore the coastline, followed by a relaxing sunset yoga session on the beach to unwind.

For the evenings we’d enjoy many of the great restaurants Los Angeles has to offer. A sushi night at Koi or dining at KA’TEEN with its unique ambiance and innovative dishes.

We’d enjoy a relaxed brunch at Great White, known for its laid-back vibe and tasty food. Throughout the week, we’d visit various rooftop bars across the city, each offering a different view and vibe, perfect for evening drinks and socializing.

To add a bit more local culture, we’d check out the Griffith Observatory for an evening under the stars. A stroll through the Arts District would also be on the list, exploring the vibrant street art, unique shops, and trendy cafes.

This mix of activities—combining outdoor adventures, culinary delights, cultural hotspots, and relaxing moments—would make for an unforgettable week in Los Angeles, showcasing the best the city has to offer.

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
Absolutely! I’d like to give a heartfelt shoutout to several key figures who have been instrumental in my journey. First and foremost, my incredible husband deserves immense gratitude for his unwavering support and encouragement through every step of my career. I also owe a huge thanks to my parents, whose love and guidance have shaped who I am today. My dear friends have been a steadfast base of support, always there to lift me up. Last but certainly not least, I must acknowledge Dr. David Wiss, my long-time mentor. His wisdom and mentorship have been invaluable in helping me navigate both my professional and personal growth. Each of these individuals has played a crucial role in my story, and I am immensely grateful for their presence in my life.
