We had the good fortune of connecting with Alexis Marrero and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Alexis, how do you think about risk?
Risk taking is a major part of my career and life. As a singer/songwriter, I choose to take a risk every single day. Trying to achieve a career path that has many unknowns is very risky, but it’s part of the thrill of it all. When you want something bad enough, the fear of the unknown scares you less. Taking risks has led me to where I am today. I also take a risk everyday in my education as an electrical engineering major. Balancing both music and engineering is a risk, as the two are very difficult to balance. Taking the risk to accomplish a degree alongside chasing after my dreams has allowed me to become a more well-rounded and confident individual. What’s life without a little risk?
Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
I am an artist who loves to make relatable music. I love to tell stories from my life or the lives around me that allow the listener to find their own story in my songs. I often write dark tales that audiences can find solace in knowing they aren’t alone in a world full of chaos. I spent years experimenting with different genres, leading me to find myself in the pop-rock realm and create a sound that felt like home to me. The journey hasn’t been easy, but no dream is easy to achieve. Life is full of ups and downs. It’s what you make of the lows that lead to the highs. At times that it seemed difficult to move forward, I continued on the path of making my dreams a reality and still proceed onward to this day!
Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
I would start the day by taking them to Philz Coffee for a morning pick me up! If they haven’t been to LA before, I would take them to the TLC Chinese Theatre, Hollywood Walk of Fame, and of course the Hollywood sign. For lunch, I would love to take them to Paradise Cove Beach Cafe for a beachside lunch. We can dip our feet into the sand and enjoy the crashing waves in front of us. I would take them for a little shopping spree down Melrose. The best way to end would be having them catch one of my shows at iconic venues such as The Viper Room or Whisky A Go Go!
The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
There are so many people I want to thank for their efforts in helping me achieve my dreams. I want to thank my mom, my grandparents, and my sister for always supporting me in my career path and allowing me to live my dreams. Thank you to Paula Anne who has guided me in so many ways and has helped me become the artist I am today. I wanna thank my band for the support and for chasing this life with me. Thank you to my vocal coach Asunta for helping me soar as a vocalist. Thank you to anyone who has been part of my journey, you all have shaped me and made me who I am today.
