We had the good fortune of connecting with Danielle Page and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Danielle, have there been any changes in how you think about work-life balance?
When I first started my business I sacrificed any sense of balance to pay my bills so I could feel more secure financially and professionally. I had zero routine, no social life, and multiple unhealthy habits. It has taken years to find more balance and I think it will always require work and boundaries to maintain it. I regularly remind myself that I deserve balance and that I do not need a successful business to prove it. I learned this the hard way a few years ago when I would finish a big work project but feel so low and unfulfilled. It is like that classic, cliche storyline in plenty of movies where the main character realizes the true meaning of life comes from a deeper connection with others and yourself. This was totally me! I was given great advice from a dear friend who said, “when you take care of yourself, your business will take care of you”. That sunk in and over time I slowly made changes to live a fuller life. I got a puppy, I asked new friends to coffee, I carved out time in my calendar for work outs, I did not look at my phone first thing in the morning, and I started therapy. The more I put myself first, the more my business thrived. I started to feel healthier and more in tune with the right direction for me. I felt more confident and my creativity flourished. Real, lasting, sustainable success comes from balance. Out of everything I have accomplished in my career I am the most proud of learning to live a full life and knowing I inherently, unapologetically deserve one.
What gets you most excited about your business?
When it comes to my business, I get the most excited about the community. I love how flowers are my connection to so many people I would have never met otherwise. I feel so grateful that I get to bring a little bit of beauty into people’s lives and that it is a gift from nature to all of us. I am extremely passionate about mental health so the fact that flowers are scientifically proven to have healing properties makes me feel like I have a tiny part in making someone’s day brighter. Flowers are extremely personal to everyone in many different ways. They are so symbolic of life and have made me more in touch with my own spirituality and self expression. Through social media, I love to write and share my thoughts and feelings on so many topics like entrepreneurship, women empowerment, self improvement, health and lifestyle. I feel like flowers gave me the platform to experience and relate to all of these other parts of life. My community and their support for my vulnerability makes my business even more personal and worthwhile.
Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
I am super into the outdoors and being active so all of my recommendations would involve nature and movement! I love hiking so we would definitely go up to Malibu and Topanga Canyon where there are also tons of fun breakfast and lunch spots. I grew up surfing and that is the classic California thing to do so we would go surfing in Malibu too! The Mar Vista farmers market would be a fun spot before a Sunday beach day. Plus rollerblading and skateboarding on the boardwalk of course! I love walking my dog through the Venice canals so I would pick a coffee spot along the route: Superba, Intelligentsia, Menottis and Great White! I like to go to bed early so no night recs from me haha. A sunset picnic would be my favorite way to end the day so we could take advantage of the quiet mornings on the trails or at the water!
Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
While there are many amazing people who helped support me early in my career I would like to dedicate this shoutout to my fiance, Michael. He is a big reason why I value balance and he has shown me that a full life really is possible. Through him I’ve realized I can prioritize relationships, my business, and so many other parts of myself, all at once. I think success can be very dependent on personal healing and growth. When we genuinely want to improve the quality of our lives it will positively impact everything around us. I have always inherently known this but it took so much consistent, hard work and deep self awareness to trust the process. Meeting Michael and trusting his love and support has made me trust and love myself so much more. When we let others in we can heal even deeper and our idea of success becomes that much more profound. Experiencing beautiful peace in my home and personal life has given me the space and joy to dream bigger dreams when I leave for work everyday.
