We had the good fortune of connecting with Kambiz Silani and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Kambiz, we’d love to hear more about how you thought about starting your own business?
I sought to build a modern eye care practice that was warm and welcoming yet offered the most advanced diagnostic and therapeutic technologies to meet each patient’s unique needs. Ideally, customizing, anticipating and striving to exceed our patient’s expectations. Furthermore, my vision was to create one of the premier, advanced dry eye centers in the country with a forward thinking, hardworking and passionate team. Despite some of the unusual challenges during COVID, our doctors and team continue to adapt and improve our office flow to provide a 5-star experience to our amazing patients.
Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
My family is full of entrepreneurs, which provided a helpful foundation and roadmap to starting my own practice. This coupled with the fact that I’ve always been self-motivated and passionate in pursuing personal projects led me to building a niche practice and a sub-specialty in eyecare, Beverly Hills Optometry; Advanced Dry Eye Center. It began with its own difficulties as I worked tirelessly around the clock to create my brand, distinguish my practice and establish a reputation as one of the top eye care professionals in the city. With consistency, authenticity and genuine care for my patients, I was able to increase my patient base. As more patients visited our practice and had memorable experiences, word of mouth spread quickly, and patients knew where to look for quality eye care services and products. With the help of social media and online marketing, we were also able to broaden our reach and share our message both locally and nationally. Now I proudly speak, write, and consult on one of my favorite topics in health care, ocular surface disease. Our mission is to educate and empower patients with the knowledge of modern medicine and eye care.
Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
California’s coastline is gorgeous from San Francisco to San Diego. In LA, we’d check out some of my favorite dining options: Avra, Wolfgang Puck at Hotel Bel-Air, Javier’s, Nobu, Crustaceans, Olivetta, to name a few. For dessert, Sprinkles Cupcakes, Churros Caliente, Magnolia bakery, & Saffron Ice Cream. Then we’d visit 3rd St Promenade, Malibu Pier, El Matador beach, Westfield mall century city, Rodeo drive and many of the famed hiking trails in town.
Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
Over the last 7 years, my wife (Neda) has always stood by my side and supported my ambitious goals. Although she shared valuable insight as the practice grew, I needed her talents within the company. After much convincing on my part, she decided to leave her comfortable corporate job to join Beverly Hills Optometry as the director of operations. With her fierce dedication to the practice, we have grown to be one of the top dry eye centers in the country. In addition to her professional support, she recently made an extraordinary sacrifice that literally saved my life. In late 2019, I was diagnosed with end stage renal failure secondary to a hereditary condition called Polycystic Kidney Disease (PKD). I immediately had an external catheter placed in my chest and had to initiate dialysis to filter my blood 3x/week. My nephrologist shared another tough fact that it may take between 5-8 years until I climb the waiting list for a kidney transplant. Neda was not satisfied with this news so she promptly sprang into action and got tested to see if she could be a living donor match. Miraculously she proved to be a perfect match and with her persistence was able to get us scheduled for surgery only 6 months after starting dialysis. Her strength, love and courage are unrivaled. As many questioned her decision to donate her kidney to a spouse, she stood by my side like she always had. On March 3rd, 2020, she endured major surgery for me to regain my life pre-dialysis. Fortunately, the procedure went smooth and after months of recovery, we are both doing well and back to working together. When I first met her, I used to say, “Babe, you complete me.” Now this is true more than ever. I am grateful daily for having her in my life. She is my hero, my soul mate, my best friend.
