Meet Fernanda Muhlbradt | Founder of Women’s Marketing

We had the good fortune of connecting with Fernanda Muhlbradt and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Fernanda, we’d love to hear more about how you thought about starting your own business?
When I started working in marketing agencies, I noticed how women-led businesses were treated differently. In briefing meetings, women-led businesses were often underestimated and considered “easier”. There was always a joke among the men about how “the client was PMSing”, and all of this always bothered me. I wanted to create an environment of respect and appreciation, where women and their businesses could be treated with the seriousness and professionalism they deserve. So I decided to create Women’s Marketing, an agency focused exclusively on women’s businesses.

What should our readers know about your business?
Well, nothing is easy. I was born in Brazil, where I went to college and got my MBA in marketing. I worked for several marketing agencies around the country and even for one in Germany. I was happy in my career, but then my life took a 360-degree turn. I met my husband at the end of 2019, and in February 2020, he decided to come to Brazil to meet me in person. We spent a wonderful week together, but he had to return to the United States. Shortly after, the COVID-19 pandemic began, with airports closed and lockdowns. The only way we could stay in touch was through long FaceTime calls, and that’s how we stayed in touch for a year.
After a year, he returned to Brazil, met my family, and we tried to apply for a tourist visa, which was denied. A few more trips and 2 years later, and after 12 trips and 2 years, he decided to make my dream of visiting Paris come true. There, as if it couldn’t get any better, he proposed to me. After that, we applied for the K1 visa (yes, like “90 day fiancé”) and, after 16 months, we got married at the courthouse in Beverly Hills.
Finally, we were going to start living our lives together. When I arrived in the United States, I thought: “Okay, now I’m married, but what about my career?” In my country, I knew the language, I had a bachelor’s and a master’s degree, but here? I didn’t speak English like I did Portuguese. What now? That’s when I realized it was time to start over from scratch. I thought about what I really loved to do, my ambitions and my dreams, and so I started developing the business plan to create Women’s Marketing.
What I want the world to know about me and my brand is that, no matter the adversity, it is possible to start over and build something meaningful. Women’s Marketing is proof that, with determination and passion, we can create a positive and lasting impact.

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
Well I like museums so I would take them to the Getty and the Getty Villa and maybe even LACMA. In terms of dining I first and foremost love Brazilian food since I am from Brazil but it’s hard to find good versions in the city but Fogo de Chão and H&H Brazilian Steakhouse are the best options unless you are willing to commute then Brazilian Plate in Torrance has some of the best authentic Brazilian comfort food for me. I spend most of my time at home so cooking at home and entertaining and drinking a great rose wine is where we would probably spend most of our time. Spending quality time with family and friends is the Brazilian way and having BBQ’s at our house is the most popular thing to do. With that said, I do love a great Italian or French restaurant and Il Cielo and The Little Door are some of my favorites.

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
I have definitely always had strong, resilient and very intelligent women who I have had the pleasure of drawing inspiration from. I come from a family of very strong women, and my mother was the first of them. She taught me to have courage, determination and to never give up on my dreams, always telling me that with perseverance and focus, our dreams are possible. In addition, I am fortunate to have found a life partner who is an inspiration for perseverance, loves me, supports me and encourages me to achieve my dreams. So, I can say that my greatest inspirations are the people I have the privilege of calling family. They are the ones who deserve all the credit and recognition for helping me get to where I am today.
