We had the good fortune of connecting with Isabelle Cloud and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Isabelle, how do you think about risk?
I see risk-taking as opportunities rather than obstacles. To me, taking risks has always played out for the better, both professionally and personally. On the professional side, I took a significant risk when I decided to start my own real estate firm at the age of 23, rather than joining one of the leading firms in the industry. While joining a corporate firm would have provided a safety net and a clear career path, I was drawn to the challenge and potential rewards of entrepreneurship. Starting my own firm required immense dedication, resilience, and creativity, but it turned out to be an incredibly motivating and lucrative decision. It allowed me to create a unique brand, and serve clients in a way that aligns with my values.

Personally, I’ve always embraced the unknown. Leaving everything I had back in my home country, Sweden, to explore what California had to offer was one of the most significant risks I’ve ever taken. The move was daunting, filled with uncertainties and challenges, but it opened up a world of opportunities that I never would have experienced otherwise. Here we are, six years later, and I can confidently say that those risks have shaped me into who I am today, both as a professional and as an individual. California has not only been a land of opportunities but also a place where I’ve found a community, built lasting relationships, and grown immensely.

In both aspects of my life, I’ve learned that calculated risks are essential for growth and success. They push you out of your comfort zone, teach you valuable lessons, and often lead to greater rewards than playing it safe ever could. For me, the key to taking risks is to approach them with a clear vision, solid preparation, and an unwavering belief in my abilities.

Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
I stumbled into VC, I had no intention of ever working in VC, but somehow I still landed an internship at a new fund and got to learn everything from bottom and up. As the fund was new, like a startup itself, I got to wear a lot of hats and grow together with the fund, and all of our portfolio companies. With each year passing by, so did my title,

I’m proud of not coming from the classical VC route and still being a partner at one of the most active funds in America. I’m excited to see that our companies are growing fast and that we’re hopefully having our first exits in the near future.

It’s been a journey, which everyone who’s in VC will experience. It’s all a grind, but we’re all working towards the same goal!

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
My family deserves immense credit and recognition for their unwavering support and encouragement throughout my journey. My parents and sister have always been my biggest supporters, cheering me on every step of the way and pushing me to step out of my comfort zone.

My parents instilled in me the values of hard work, perseverance, and resilience from a young age. They always believed in my potential and encouraged me to pursue my dreams, no matter how ambitious they seemed. Their belief in me gave me the confidence to take bold steps, whether it was starting my own business or moving to a new country. They provided not just moral support but also practical advice and guidance, which has been invaluable in navigating the challenges of entrepreneurship and life in a foreign land.

My sister, on the other hand, has been my rock and confidant. She’s always been there to listen, offer advice, and celebrate my successes with genuine joy. Her encouragement and belief in me have been a constant source of motivation. She’s the person I turn to when I need to brainstorm new ideas, tackle difficult problems, or simply vent about the challenges I’m facing. Her positive energy and unwavering support have made even the toughest days more manageable.

Beyond my immediate family, my friends and professional mentors have also played a crucial role in my journey. They’ve provided a network of support, sharing their wisdom, experience, and encouragement. Their insights have often helped me see things from different perspectives, making me a better leader and decision-maker.

In summary, my family’s support has been the bedrock of my success. Their belief in me, combined with their practical support and advice, has empowered me to take risks, overcome challenges, and achieve my goals. I am deeply grateful for their presence in my life and the profound impact they’ve had on my personal and professional growth.
