We had the good fortune of connecting with Michaelle Valcourt and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Michaelle, what was your thought process behind starting your own business?
My thought process in starting my own scrub brand began with a combination of personal experience and wanting to add a little dazzle in the healthcare industry. As a healthcare professional, I was constantly trying to find a scrub that gave that first impression, you know something different. I would go to work, with joggers, looking like “knicker bockers”. My mom was a seamstress, so after her passing, it ignite a fire inside of me to push! After doing market research, and seen the opportunity that lied ahead to address these gaps.

I started by conducting thorough market research to understand what healthcare workers truly needed and one identified common pain points was for the healthcare professionals slaying at work. . From this, I developed a vision for my brand centered on high-quality, functional, and stylish scrubs that would make a real difference in people’s daily work lives.

The process was not easy! From having my original design not coming into flourish! Having a different style, but end up liking and ensuring quality was great. Launched website, with products being held at customs for a while. Having to spend more money than my expected budget. Again, I still believed in my brand, but these were opportunities to innovate and stay true to my brand’s values.

Looking ahead, my goal is to expand our product line while continuing to prioritize quality and sustainability, ensuring that our scrubs not only meet but exceed the expectations of those who wear them.” When you look god, you feel good, and you tend to serve your clients at your best!

Alright, so for those in our community who might not be familiar with your business, can you tell us more?
What makes Classy Acute Med Wear different from the other scrub companies, we thought of our healthcare workers in mind. We wanted to cater to our curvier sisters. One should choose to purchase our scrubs because We brought in fashion into the workplace. No longer need to be plain Jane. Now you can come to work in style, confident and serve our patients.

Phew! Where do I begin? I’m going to give it to you guys raw and uncut, the process of starting this business was soooo many trials and errors! Reaching out to many vendors not executing my vision. Either they are showing you how to be a reseller or they are sending you other scrubs as samples but covering their logo! After praying, asking God for guidance. I spoke to my girl Tia about been trying to execute this scrub line business for a little while, immediately she connected me to her cousin Christal, a local vendor in the US. And my journey began with the scrubs. Before production, these scrubs were designed. Shipping was another issue with delay. Through it all, I just learned PATIENCE! Honestly, just leaving it in Gods hand and thinking positive.

Running a business is not easy! Feelings and business don’t mix. Must put your feelings to the side. There’s days you make money, there’s days you don’t make money. You have to continue to push for your goal. You don’t give up. You have to analyze what worked and what didn’t work for you. You have to continually adapt to change. Don’t jump into business, thinking it’s peaches and cream. It’s a lot of work, dedication, losses, frustrations, etc but continue to push. Celebrate the small wins because they will turn into big wins. You never know how much potential you have within you, if you don’t push past your comfort zone. It don’t feel good being stretched.

An advice I would give to my readers is always, seek God first in everything you do. Pray! Pray! Pray! Write down your goals/vision. Plan on working on that vision. Execute that vision by putting in the ground work. INVEST! Don’t be afraid to invest in a coach, mentor, products, etc. Whatever is beneficial to both you and your industry. I leave you guys with this, “ Starve your fear, feed your faith”.

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
Welcome to Miami! Home of the different culture, and where the party don’t start until 3AM. Lol! It’s a must you hit up the beaches! Like who, doesn’t like a good brunch spot! It’s so much to name. Theres, Victory Restaurant and Lounge, Another Broken Egg, Red Rooster, Crazy About You, Moon, Pura Vida, Sugar. I can go on and on about this. The bottomless mimosas are a hit. We are hitting the Design District to go shopping. Go to Gulf stream, to hit up the Karoke spot, Go bowling. I love to laugh, so I would definitely be checking out the Improv to catch a comedy show. Listen, you re bound to have a great time down here! You don’t even need to hit up the clubs, the lounges turn into an after party after.

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
First, I want to give a BIG shout to my boy G-O-D! Without him, I would not have been connected to the people he has aligned me with today. My husband for his support with all my new ideas. My 4 boys who inspire me to be a better version of myself everyday. My friends who pray, support and understands me. Vanessa, who helped me to understand the presence of pushing a brand on social media( I was off for some time, and had to be hip with was new). Christal, who helped me get i position to produce these stylish scrubs with the original manufacturing company. Sheneka, who assisted me with pushing my children’s book.
