We had the good fortune of connecting with Alessandra Divine and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Alessandra, can you walk us through the thought-process of starting your business?
My thoughts process for me when it came to starting my own business was first looking into what I am already doing as a hobby and seeing if there was a business for it; which there is. I do drag entertainment and there are many people that want to see a drag queen but don’t want to go to a gay bar, which is fine. I took that and started promoting myself (and other queens) for private events like bachelorette parties. It is a very profitable business and everyone loves to be entertained.

Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
I do drag entertainment. It is super fun and not only does it bring my customers/patrons joy, it brings me joy as well. As for me, I can’t say I’m the best queen out there, but when it comes to managing and running a business, I feel like I am pretty good. I am doing what other queens aren’t. I am taking drag entertainment outside of bars to local colleges, homes, and businesses. I have worked with many non profits, educational entities, companies, and wonderful people celebrating life accomplishments. I am most proud of helping local queens branch out of bars and become a more rounded entertainer by hiring them for events. Getting to where I was wasn’t easy but it also wasn’t hard. I just marketed myself and my services and it worked. I have been doing deag for over a decade and this has helped me to become the well rounded entertainer that I am today. I have learned to work with all types of individuals, even the very demanding and rude. But I take a challenge and make a goal for them to have a great time at my show. I want the world to know that drag entertainment is for everyone to try and enjoy. We aren’t here to hurt anyone or “groom” your children, we’re here to make you laugh and enjoy life, even if it’s for an hour.

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
Well to start, I’d make sure they’ll be in Orange County the week that my monthly drag brunch was, “That’s So Drag!” Brunch Show; I’d definitely recommend it. We feature local drag artists and great food. I’d also recommend the oldest gay bar in OC, Frat House. When it comes to food, it is really hard to pick one but Garden Grove/Fountain Valley/Westminster have great Asian cuisine. Orange County is a boiling pot of different flavors, it is never a dull moment.

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
My shout out goes to all the queer community; the ones that aren’t afraid to be and express themselves, no matter the current political environment we’re in.
