We had the good fortune of connecting with Barry Under Your Bed and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Barry, what led you to pursuing a creative path professionally?
Mostly because I’m not good at anything else! I have so many ideas and my furry little brain never turns off. I am constantly thinking of new bits, new skits, new songs, new events, and so on…I feel like my life wouldn’t be fulfilling if I wasn’t creative!

Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
For the most part, I’m a lovable little monster who visits events and places all over Southern California to learn more about humans. I also do a lot of comedy, both online and at stand-up.

I think what sets me apart from others is the fact that I am a puppet. I mean, there are PLENTY of puppets in the world: on Sesame Street, in the government, etc. But I think I’m doing something a little different, and giving people a furry little monster to root for.

I got to where I am today by working hard and never giving up. It was NOT easy; there were plenty of times I wanted to quit. There still are times like that! But with the help of my human friends (and a little gardening service side business), I keep going and going. You’ll never get rid of me!

I learned that not everyone is going to love you, and that’s okay! You gotta keep being you and being unique for your own sake. Conformity is boring!

I want people to remember me for who I am: an annoying little monster!

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
Oh man, if one of my friends was coming for a week-long trip, it would be EPIC.

We’d hit all the local spots I love: Griffith Park, Forest Lawn Cemetery, the Mystic Museum, Catnip Coalition (for a quick snack!).

I’d have to take them to see all the tourist stuff too, like the stars on the walk of fame, the museums, maybe the exterior of the Golden Girl’s house. How could you miss that?!

Also, we’d have to hang out outside of Leo DiCaprio’s house to say hello, restraining order be damned.

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
Jim Henson, of all people, deserves the most credit for where I am and what I do. Ever since I was a little monster watching him make people laugh on TV with a green frog, I knew that is exactly what I wanted to do. His creative mind and genius was unmatched, and the world owes him for all the joy he spread.
