We had the good fortune of connecting with Bohan Zhang and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Bohan, can you talk to us a bit about the social impact of your business?
Story is everything. The formation of human civilization lies in the affirmation of one story after another. Storytelling, expression, and communication are prerequisites that enable us to write to each other, convey information, depict visions, and ultimately execute them.

Since the 20th century, the ultimate form of this storytelling and expression, which I like to call “audiovisual products,” has been realized with film as its gem. I firmly believe that audiovisual language will become the universal language of the future, the true Esperanto, and the ultimate form of the Tower of Babel. Therefore, continuously creating audiovisual products, movies, series, advertisements, and more, is an accumulation of this future language for humanity. Simultaneously, in contemporary society, my content can be conveyed to various audiences to the greatest extent possible, achieving widespread resonance. This is almost the only form of mass art, mass product, and mass media capable of reaching a sufficient number of people in today’s information-explosive society.

We express viewpoints, we reflect stances, and at the same time, we tell the stories of the films we consider important and beautiful. We empower our clients through audiovisual means.

Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
Yes, I’ve been able to support myself full-time through creative work in film, series, and commercial production. My journey began with a deep-seated passion for movies, which I pursued initially as a hobby while focusing seriously on developing my skills. I studied film at Beijing Film Academy for my undergraduate degree and later pursued an MFA in Genre Filmmaking at Columbia University in the United States.

After graduating, I started my career in creative producing and directing, engaging in various segments including creating my own short films, feature films, and engaging in pitch events. Additionally, I produced advertisements and short dramas, achieving significant viewership. The real turning point came from persistent cold calls and emails, which eventually led to opportunities in advertising and my first production of short dramas. Recognizing the potential of vertical content was a key insight, allowing me to tap into a rising trend.

One of my major career milestones was the success of my early short dramas, like “Knight in the Shining Suit” and “The Heiress Strike Back,” which went viral and significantly boosted my visibility, leading to more collaboration offers. Convincing others of my capabilities and presenting direct solutions rather than proving myself in a traditional sense were among the challenges I faced. I focused on assembling and managing dynamic production teams effectively to consistently deliver high-quality work.

For someone starting out, my advice would be to focus on action over words. Let your work speak for itself. If I knew then what I know now, I would still emphasize the importance of showing tangible results and maintaining a practical approach in all creative endeavors.

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
The places I am always most drawn to are historical homes or museums. I love buildings imbued with stories and icons, and I am especially fond of large spaces that encapsulate local history into a three-dimensional experience. Walking through them feels like stretching out life itself. Touring cultural sites with someone I care about is perhaps the ideal scenario. This is because, unlike natural landscapes that bring physiological pleasure, cultural sites represent a complex interweaving of thought, experience, and a blend of rational and emotional reactions. However, many relationships struggle after visiting such places—this is unfortunately a fact—because they prompt deep reflection. But if you visit these historical homes and museums with someone who resonates on the same frequency, you would find yourselves engaging in deep conversations, as if sharing the lives and times represented by each artifact.

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
My parents, who came from rural China, became the first in our family to receive higher education, the first to settle in a big city, and the first to be exposed to modern ideas. They followed in the footsteps of China’s development. When their son wanted to pursue his dreams, they had progressive enough thinking and a relatively solid material foundation—both indispensable—to support their son’s career and dreams. One was an engineer, the other a teacher. They gave me unlimited support, allowing me to dedicate myself to what I wanted to do.
