We had the good fortune of connecting with Marcello Lara and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Marcello, what is the most important factor behind your success?
For me the idea of success, or being successful is just the possibility of doing whatever it is you want to do, and being able to make a decent living out of it. In what I’ve accomplished in my life, both in music as well as in social media, I consider myself successful basically under that principle. With that in mind, I believe the most important factor behind what I do is being honest, congruent and true to myself and what I believe in. I’ve never tried to please anyone else but myself. Happily, this has been shared by many people. So never trying to be something I’m not, or speaking in a manner other than true with myself has been a means to reaching people and getting my messages across.

Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
My two activities intertwine in a manner that, if I’d planned them, would never have worked. I’ve always liked music and burgers. My main creative endeavor was playing, producing and making music: as a musician, as a producer and as music business executive. Thru music I’ve been able to travel the world. Along all my travels, food has been very important. Getting to know the food of all the places I’ve been to. And specifically, burgers. So being able to travel so much and eat burgers everywhere I went was a match made in heaven. I started my Burger Blog a long time ago and the music travel fed the content. After a while the burger blog developed a life of its own and I found myself with two careers: as a musician and as a content creator. It’s been a blast.

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
Whenever I have time in Los Angeles and find myself with company, I have a few special spots I like to take people to. First of all, a full morning in Hollyhock House in East Hollywood, followed by lunch at The Apple Pan. Two LA classics that paint a very different picture of what everybody thinks of in Los Angeles. Another day would be spent, first with a hearty breakfast in the Original Pantry in Downtown, followed by a museum day at the Broad and probably a show at the Walt Disney Concert Hall and dinner at Canters in Hollywood. I just love classic Los Angeles and Modern LA.

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
My shoutout goes to my Moderatto family. They have kept me true to myself for more than 23 years. Also, I would like to acknowledge my uncle, Manuel Sáenz, for teaching me about burgers and opening my eyes to them at a very young age.
