We had the good fortune of connecting with Stacey Skordas and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Stacey, can you walk us through the thought-process of starting your business?
I wanted to produce something I couldn’t find anywhere else. I had some free time on my hands and a penchant for creativity, so I set out to create a fun and useful beach bag for myself. That first summer I created a personal bag… that would eventually become the first “Salvage Sac”. I would wear it around at the beach and everyone would ask me where i got it… so i set out to making more. And the rest is history!
Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
I wasn’t the best student…I had learning disabilities, and never considered myself “book smart”. As a result, it took me a while to trust myself to pursue my creativity as a means of income. But because i always put all my efforts into the arts, photography, painting, design, i was well poised to create products that people loved, once i took that leap!
Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
I love the west village! The streets are so charming, and you find the most amazing restaurants. Fairfax is a favorite of mine. Take the subway down to Christopher street, get a glass of wine at Bar Pisselino, and let yourself get lost on the tree lined streets or along the west side highway. That’s all you need! Alone or with friends
Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
I’m grateful for my family for always supporting me. My business could not exist without their unconditional love and constant encouragement. Also, my wonderful friends for buying and repping my bags, keeping the Salvage Sac’s name growing and thriving. You know exactly who you are! Love you all!
