We had the good fortune of connecting with Aisha And Talia Mainwaring and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Aisha and Talia, is your business focused on helping the community? If so, how?
In a world where social media has the power to both influence and impact almost every aspect of society, we’ve always felt that it’s a tool that we as young people have a responsibility to use to make the world a better place. Younger generations are passionate about doing good, but brands often struggle to translate their impact to social media. Main Design works to remedy this problem and encourage conscious consumerism by helping brands translate their purpose to their community and simultaneously build their business. For example, one of our Australian fashion clients, Outland Denim, activates a cycle of freedom for people who have been victims of human trafficking and we help communicate that impact to their community to both increase brand awareness and drive sales.

Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
People are often curious about what it’s like working together as sisters and we can honestly say that our relationship feels like our greatest superpower. We have the same creative vision but slightly different skillsets that allow us to divide and conquer and take on challenges in different ways. Our motto is “say yes and figure it out later” which really comes down to the confidence we have in ourselves to problem solve. We largely credit that confidence to our amazing education at the Archer School for Girls in LA. Not only did they foster a sense of empowerment but they also taught us that you really can do anything you put your mind to. Being based between LA and Sydney and experiencing both markets has also given us a unique business and creative perspective that has been invaluable as we’ve worked with different brands over the years.

We’re so lucky to have the most incredible team in both LA and Sydney. Without them none of this would be possible. One of our biggest joys has been building a team of smart, hardworking, passionate women who support one another and truly enjoy each other’s company. We say on the daily how grateful we are to have found them.

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
We have a few favorite spots that we find ourselves at regularly. Michael’s in Santa Monica is dare we say the best happy hour in the city. Long shoot days often end in extra dirty martinis on their front patio. The homemade salt and vinegar chips are a must.

You’ll often find us working at Zinqué in Venice. It’s become one of those places for us that we work at, have dinner at, happy hour at, and on very special nights, get our boogie on too.

You can’t go wrong with a PCH drive and Country Kitchen burritos on the way up to the canyons is always a good idea. We highly recommend the Old Place Cinnamon roll for brunch and a little California country fix.

You can’t skip Wabi’s spicy tuna crispy rice. Pro tip: grab a bottle of natural wine from Vin on Rose to enjoy while you eat.

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
Our Dad, Simon Mainwaring, instilled in us at a young age the importance of giving back, putting the collective above the individual, and showed us that business can be a force for good to make a positive impact on a global scale. He’s been our greatest supporter on this crazy rollercoaster that is the entrepreneurial journey and we couldn’t be more grateful for his mentorship.
