We had the good fortune of connecting with Leuras and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
My songs are incredibly heartfelt and express raw feelings about experiences that I hope people can relate to. I find it quite easy to articulate or express how I’m feeling and to do it through song and lyrics is also a healing experience for me, in addition to being incredibly fun! My sound is a mixture of dream rock and classic rock, with some alt-country twang at times. My sound is definitely born in California, where most of my songs have been written and recorded.
Some lessons I’ve learnt along the way are:
–Don’t let anyone stop you from following your passion, it’s amazing how far dedication and action can take you.
–Surround yourself with people who inspire you, and collaborate with people who are there because they love it and you know they want to be there.
–A friend told me once “people are going to judge you anyway, so you should just do what you want!” I remind myself of this regularly.
–Not all gigs are going to be packed, but that’s ok, not everyone has the best day at work so it shouldn’t discourage you.
–If in doubt, ask yourself, what’s the worse that can happen? Usually it’s never that bad.
–And finally, jam out and have fun! I play music because I love it, so find the thing you love, and you’ll have internal joy.
Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
Mornings I would head to Gjelina’s Takeout in Venice Beach for a breakfast burrito. They are the best breakfast burritos in the state! After that I would walk along Abbott Kinney Boulevard in Venice Beach and check out some of the stores and I’d grab a cortado at Intelligentsia. I would definitely do a hike up to Griffith Observatory and check out the view. Lunch one day would definitely be at Chateau Marmont. I would check out a show at Hollywood Bowl and would see what local shows are happening at the Troubadour.
I would do a night trip out to Joshua Tree and visit Pioneer Town, and hike to the real desert oasis at 29 Palms. I’d visit all the local art stores in Joshua Tree and would sleep under the stars.
In summer, I would do a day trip down to Laguna Beach to swim in the warm ocean. That would be a week with me visiting the LA area.
Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
I have to start by shouting out to my band members and collaborators… Dillon (bass) and Joel (drums) for bringing my songs to life, as well as other collaborators I’ve worked with along the way like Steven, Michael, Conor, Jed (bunch of Cali-dudes I met up in the Bay Area), and RJ from Trakworx Recording. I also want to shout out to Gwen Stefani for releasing Tragic Kingdom in 1995. It was my first ever CD, and I still love all the songs.. she was a huge inspiration. And lastly, I’m giving a shoutout to Ged. My first music collaborator from our band Titan Outfits that we started when we were teenagers. My love affair with bands and making music really started then and there.
