We had the good fortune of connecting with Happi Kaur and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Happi, what role has risk played in your life or career?
Risk-taking is a necessary part of growth, both personally and professionally. It’s essential for breaking through limitations and achieving something greater. In my career, there have been moments where I took risks by saying yes to projects that were outside my comfort zone or by making significant financial investments in new equipment and education. These financial risks, although uncertain at the time, allowed me to offer better services, attract higher-paying clients, and stay competitive in a rapidly evolving industry. The results have often led to bigger opportunities and opened doors that wouldn’t have been available otherwise.

Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
My art is all about bringing out the best in people through makeup. What sets me apart is my focus on creating looks that highlight individuality rather than conforming to trends. I take pride in my ability to adapt to a variety of styles and needs, whether it’s a natural look for a photoshoot, a bridal client, or a more creative, avant-garde project. I’m most proud of my attention to detail and the trust I’ve built with my clients over the years.

Getting to where I am today wasn’t easy. It took a lot of perseverance and learning from mistakes along the way. One of the biggest challenges I faced was overcoming self-doubt, especially when I was starting out and competing with more established artists. I had to focus on honing my skills, building my portfolio, and gaining confidence through experience. Networking and collaborating with other creatives also helped me grow and find my place in the industry.

The biggest lesson I’ve learned is the importance of staying authentic to my own style while remaining adaptable to my clients’ needs. I want the world to know that my brand is about enhancing natural beauty and building confidence through artistry. My journey has been about persistence and a commitment to evolving while staying true to myself!

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
Vancouver is absolutely amazing! I’d make sure they experience the perfect mix of nature, culture, and amazing food. A few things that come to mind are places like:
•Granville Island, exploring the local artisan shops and enjoying fresh food
•Vancouver Lookout for panoramic views of the city
•A hike at Grouse Mountain would be a must. Whether it’s the Grind or taking the gondola up, the views are unbeatable.
•Relax at a brewery in the Mt. Pleasant area.
•Stanley Park to bike the Seawall, stopping at Third Beach to catch the sunset.
•A day trip to Whistler! Probably stop along the way there for a beautiful hike
•Kitsilano for a beach day.
•Ferry ride to Bowen Island for some peaceful hikes
•Gastown, with its cobbled streets and unique shops, ending the night with cocktails
•Vancouver Art Gallery and Chinatown

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
I’d like to dedicate my shoutout to a few key people. First, my family has been a constant source of encouragement, always pushing me to pursue my passions and reminding me to stay resilient through challenges. Especially my sister, who is the reason I started playing with makeup leading me into my career.
Professionally, I’m grateful for the photographers, stylists, and fellow artists I’ve collaborated with over the years. Their mentorship, feedback, and shared experiences have helped me grow in ways I couldn’t have on my own. My friend, Tracy, who is an amazing photographer, is a major part of my success and growth! We practically started our journey in our creative careers together and I don’t think I’d be where I was without her!
