Meet Myriam Blankaert | Cabaret performer – French songstress

We had the good fortune of connecting with Myriam Blankaert and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi myriam, we’d love to hear more about how you thought about starting your own business?
I just want to do something I like. It keeps me on my toes, and I think I’m pretty good at it.

Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
I’m an actress and a chanteuse. it’s hard to imagine choosing this profession with a full understanding of the ups and downs of such a career. It’s a rollercoaster everyday, on many levels trying to balance it all. You can only juggle so many balls. Moving to America from Europe set my standards higher when I realized that most performers here were triple-threats.
Because I learned classical piano as a child, I was able to meld my theater experience to retro music. So now I have a cabaret show I perform at several venues around town. I audition regularly for TV roles. And I find the balance.
My big break was moving to New York from my country in the late 90s, and getting a role in the finale of Sex and the City alongside Sarah Jessica Parker kind of put me on the map.
Recently Katy Perry cast me in her best friend’s music video, Ferras’ Coming Back Around, so acting & music are very intertwined in everything I do.

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
I would start on Hollywood Boulevard, on the Walk of Fame. Then I would go over to Los Feliz for an iced matcha at Maru, take a stroll on Hillhurst or Vermont before stopping for Happy Hour at the Figaro.
The next day, I would head to the west side with a stop at Mr. Brainwash, a whacked out museum in Beverly Hills! Go to Santa Monica for a dip in the ocean, and then a shopping spree on the Third Street Promenade. Check the sunset in Venice.
Day three would be a visit to one of the famous studios: Universal, Warner Brothers or Paramount.
On the fourth day it’s time to relax at the Descanso Gardens or the Huntington, going through Old Pasadena and discovering a completely different part of the city. Finally, I would catch a Broadway show at the Pantages or a concert at the Greek or the Hollywood Bowl. Finish with a nightcap at Boardner’s, a Hollywood institution.
If you still have time, don’t forget the Lacma museum, the Broad or the Getty. And try to squeeze in a hike in Griffith Park to the Observatory.
But that’s just a few ideas… wink wink. I should start a blog!

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
First of all, thank you for having me! I was always inspired by performers and their capacity to radiate joy. Sometimes in spite of obstacles.
In such a self-centered field, it’s important to put things in perspective. I find that service to the community, through charity work, helps me stay grounded. I help out with an organization serving food to people in need. It’s a delicate equilibrium, not only professionally but in your life, like walking a tightrope.
