We had the good fortune of connecting with Annie Alden and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Annie, how do you think about risk?
Seeing risk as an opportunity for organic evolution invites me to embrace the unpredictable nature of life. I have definitely climbed ladders only to discover that the view isn’t what I hoped for or thought it would feel like. This perspective had encouraged me to swim downstream, allowing the currents of life to guide me rather than resisting them with hyper-vigilance … letting go of the need for control has opened me to SO many unexpected possibilities that have fostered growth and adaptability. I truly believe life is cumulative.
The inherent nature of being a design consultant teaches me new things every day… I am never done learning and that works very well for me. I am a natural problem solver – I feel very at home in this role.

Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
I love to create large scale mixed media contemporary pieces. My works explore relationships between shapes, colors, and textures; channeling the gestural energy and compositional tension.

My paintings also serve as an extension of my design practice. When designing my own home, I visualized the array of artworks that would perfectly complement my chosen scheme. I found that no existing works lived up to what I saw in my mind’s eye, I created the pieces myself, and an art practice was born!

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
When my besties come in town to visit – my favorite thing to do night one is order in, drink wine, and stay up way too late chatting & laughing…
Day two and beyond – I love finding exciting antique & import stores… I ADORE the hunt… together we gain exposure to new things!
As for dining – as a new mommy I don’t get out much… so when I do I am all for laid-back, delicious, & relaxed stay as long as you’d like energy…
Little Beach House Malibu (can’t beat the view & kid-friendly atmosphere) , Caffe’ Delfini (seafood pasta is TDF), Firefly, Lucky’s…

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
Dedicate to my amazing clients. Trusting my expertise and keeping the process fun!
Also to my friends and family for being my initial champions… seeing my abilities before I had recognized them.
