We had the good fortune of connecting with Bonnie Lippincott and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Bonnie, what led you to pursuing a creative path professionally?
When I had children, I felt my own identity shattered and was being rebuilt. This was an invitation to grow, and to create. This is why I wrote Entry Level Mom book. The goal of this book was to uplift through honesty and positivity. This led to Entry Level Mom Podcast.

Also, reading children’s books to my children inspired me to write a few books about topics I felt strongly about:
1) sibling harmony & thinking outside the box (Candy Factory)
2) affirmations & believing in ourselves (Harper drives the Houseboat)
3) asking for help (Tara the Turtle)
4) bedtime routines (Yawning Man)
5) mindset & resilience (Toad Island)
6) self-compassion (ABCs of self love)

Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
I am a regular lady, an entry level human. At the exact same time, I also am extraordinary, magical, and so are you.
I feel this art is healing for me to create, so I keep creating it.
It flows through me, so to speak. This is not to say that there aren’t aspects of publishing books that takes grit. (For example, it took precise time blocking and grit to complete the formatting, marketing, and editing), but I focus on my long term goal: to enjoy it.
After I removed the blocks of the ego, writing and creating was easy because it was fun! I have learned to follow the fun!
The goal is to uplift through honesty and vulnerability.

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
1. Getty Villa in Malibu followed by lunch on the pier: Malibu Farm Restaurant at the Pier, dinner: Moonshadows
2. Natural History Museum of Los Angeles County & La Brea tarpits, followed by dinner: Original Tommy’s World Famous Burgers
3. LACMA Los Angeles County Museum of Art followed by lunch in Koreatown (Kobawoo House or Sun Nong Dan)
4. Breakfast at Perch, MOMA Museum of Modern Art & The Broad & Walt Disney Concert Hall, dinner: Little Tokyo
5. Hollywood Walk of Fame, concert @ Hollywood Bowl, Mel’s Drivein lunch, dinner: Nobu LA

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
I would love to shoutout to the loved ones who encouraged me to write the book, and who read initial copies, namely Mel, Janna, my uncle Brian, Laura, Amanda, and my husband Ryan. Ryan, thanks for consistently supporting my pursuits, and for mapping out Entry Level Mom by chapter by taping paper to our walls. You always make sense of my chaos.

I would like to shoutout to my podcast guests, and to my author club. I am constantly learning from these amazing people. I would also love to shoutout my mother, for her love and support while I figured out the early days motherhood.

Lastly, I would like to thank my kids for making me a mother.
