Meet Christiane King | Creative Director & Founder

We had the good fortune of connecting with Christiane King and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Christiane, what was your thought process behind starting your own business?
My journey in fashion has been filled with transformative experiences that have shaped me both as a designer and as a creative entrepreneur. Originally from Côte d’Ivoire, I have experienced the French and later the American cultures gaining exposure to different styles and influences. This multicultural experience laid the foundation for my unique perspective on design.
After earning my Bachelor’s degree in Fashion Design from Woodbury University I began my career in fashion by collaborating with Hollywood studios like Disney, Universal, and Warner Brothers, developing collections for children for department stores that merged creativity and functionality. Later I worked behind the scenes for major names, such as leading the creative direction for fast-paced and high-impact brands such as Sean John, teaching me how to balance artistic creativity with practical design needs.
Through these experiences, I realized that I had something unique to offer—something that could elevate the way women see themselves through fashion. My time working with Hollywood’s elite, designing for the likes of Kaley Cuoco, Venus and Serena Williams, and Ashley Tisdale, showed me the power fashion holds to inspire confidence and presence.
It was this realization that fueled my thought process behind starting my own brand. I wanted to create a line that would speak directly to women, celebrating their strength, beauty, and individuality. Every woman is unique, and I wanted to design pieces that would not only make them look good but also feel empowered.
When I began conceptualizing my collection, I wanted to go beyond trends and create something with timeless appeal. This is how the idea of my white button-down shirt collection was born. The white shirt is a classic staple, but I wanted to make it more than just a wardrobe essential—I wanted it to carry a message of empowerment. Each shirt features an embroidered word, such as “iconic,” “legendary,” “limitless,” etc. which serves as a reminder to the wearer of her inner strength and greatness.
The thought process behind my business was simple: I wanted to merge my love for fashion with my belief in empowering women. Fashion, for me, is more than just clothes—it’s a way to communicate who we are and how we feel about ourselves. Through my designs, I aim to help women embrace their unique beauty and power, all while offering timeless, beautifully crafted pieces that elevate their everyday lives.
Starting my own business was a leap of faith, but it was one rooted in a clear vision. I knew I wanted to create something meaningful, something that would inspire and uplift. And today, as I continue to grow my brand, that mission remains at the heart of everything I do.

Can you give our readers an introduction to your business? Maybe you can share a bit about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
Starting my own fashion business was born out of a deep desire to create something meaningful and personal—something that would resonate with women on a deeper level.
My thought process behind creating these pieces was to merge timeless style with a meaningful message. I want women to feel seen, powerful, and celebrated in our button down shirts. Fashion, to me, is about more than trends—it’s about how we show up in the world, and I believe every woman deserves to feel like the best version of herself every day. These shirts are a reflection of that belief.
The competitive industry I operate in comes with its own set of challenges. From securing the right manufacturing partnerships to navigating the complexities of launching a business can be challenging. There were moments when it feel overwhelmed, especially as I balanced the creative side with the business demands. But what kept me going was my unwavering belief in the message behind my designs: empowering women through fashion. Each hurdle becomes an opportunity to learn and grow.
Perseverance, patience, and staying true to my vision is how I overcome those challenges. One of the most important lessons I’ve learned is that you can’t rush the creative process or the growth of your business. Much like the craftsmanship I value so much, building something meaningful takes time. I faced challenges in finding the right suppliers and manufacturers, particularly those who could deliver the quality and attention to detail I need for my designs. But by being persistent and standing firm in my standards, I’m able to build relationships with partners who truly understand my vision.
Another key to overcoming challenges is surrounding myself with a strong support system—my family, mentors, and collaborators. Their belief in me helps me stay focused when the road gets tough.

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
Day 1: Brunch & Chill in Malibu
Start the week off with brunch at Malibu Farm on the pier—there’s nothing like fresh, local dishes paired with the sound of ocean waves. Afterward, we’ll head to Zuma Beach for some relaxation and sunbathing, soaking in the Malibu sunshine.
Day 2: Beverly Hills Glam & Rodeo Drive Shopping
We’ll spend the day indulging in the luxury of Beverly Hills, starting with a stroll down Rodeo Drive for some high-end shopping or window browsing. Afterward, we’ll take a relaxing walk through Beverly Gardens Park to snap a picture by the iconic Beverly Hills Sign. For lunch, we’ll head to The Polo Lounge at the Beverly Hills Hotel, a classic spot with old Hollywood charm. To round out the day, we’ll visit Greystone Mansion or take a fun ride on the Beverly Hills Trolley before enjoying dinner at Cipriani.
Day 3: Nature Escape & Local Fun
A hike is a must! We’ll start the day exploring Topanga Canyon State Park or Malibu Creek State Park, hitting the trails with my dog. After working up an appetite, we’ll head to Inn of the Seventh Ray, an enchanting outdoor restaurant nestled in nature’s lap, for a magical lunch experience. Afterward, we’ll drive to Malibu Wines & Beer Garden for a relaxed afternoon sipping wine or enjoying refreshments in a scenic outdoor setting. To end the day, we’ll stop by Westlake Village for some low-key shopping at The Promenade or enjoy a lakeside stroll, soaking in the calm evening atmosphere.

A visit to Griffith Observatory offers some of the best panoramic views of LA. Afterward, we’ll walk down the Hollywood Walk of Fame and maybe catch a film at the legendary TCL Chinese Theatre. To end the day on a high note, dinner at Yamashiro Hollywood, a Japanese restaurant with stunning views of the city’s twinkling lights, is the perfect way to unwind.
Day 5: Venice Beach & Santa Monica Adventure
One of my favorite activities is biking along the beach. We’ll rent bikes and ride from Venice Beach to the Santa Monica Pier, soaking in the vibrant energy and ocean breeze. After enjoying the pier’s attractions, we’ll bike back and grab a delicious meal at The Sidewalk Café—a boardwalk staple known for its unbeatable burgers and pizzas.
Day 6: Exploring Calabasas
We’d kick off the weekend with a visit to the Calabasas Farmers Market on Saturday morning. I love browsing the fresh produce and artisan goods, enjoying the lively market atmosphere. Afterward, we’ll stroll around The Commons at Calabasas, grab a coffee at Pedaler’s Fork, and explore the charming boutiques in the area.
Day 7: Relaxing at LACMA
For a laid-back cultural experience, we’d spend the day at LACMA (Los Angeles County Museum of Art), exploring its expansive exhibits and outdoor installations. It always feels like a creative escape, and I love sharing that experience with my friends. Afterward, we’ll head to The Grove for some shopping and an early dinner to round out the week on a relaxing note.

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
I want to take a moment to give a heartfelt shoutout to my roots in the Cote d’Ivoire. Growing up there shaped so much of who I am today. It inspired my deep appreciation for nature, for craftsmanship and for patience—qualities that have become the backbone of my work as a designer. For a long time, I struggled to fully embrace that part of myself, but I’ve come to realize that where I come from is what makes me unique. My story, my journey—it’s a true gift that I carry with me in everything I create.
Of course, I owe so much to my immediate family—my husband, my two incredible sons, my brother and sisters and most importantly my mother and late father. Their unwavering support and unconditional love have been the pillars of strength I’ve leaned on throughout my journey. Without them, none of this would be possible. Their belief in me and constant encouragement have kept me grounded and motivated to keep pursuing my dreams.
