Meet Lindsay Brunner | Pelvic Floor and Orthopedic Physical Therapist

We had the good fortune of connecting with Lindsay Brunner and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Lindsay, how does your business help the community?
Working as an orthopedic and pelvic floor physical therapist means helping people, both on an individual and a community level. I have the privilege of helping people directly with injuries and physical conditions that impair their quality of life. Though I work with a wide range of clients, I would say I feel the most impact in the community of parents and birthing people. During pregnancy I help people with pain, overall fitness, and empowerment that their body can handle this amazing process. In the postpartum phase I help people recover from the strain of birth and guide them in how to return safely to activity and daily tasks. Urinary leakage, abdominal separation, C-section scar management, body mechanics, and return to exercise can be important parts of a full recovery. Caring for the body of the birthing person is often overlooked in our health care system, so I find this work to have a large impact on quality of life in this community. As a parent myself I can offer empathy and compassion for the overall experience of transitioning into parenthood, which is often in short supply.
Because I find knowledge and information to be so powerful, I also offer low-cost educational sessions and workshops in my local community. This way I can reach more people and pass on the knowledge I have gained through my education and professional experience. Too often birthing people are not aware of the information and resources that can help their recovery, so I consider community-based education to be a professional duty.

Can you give our readers an introduction to your business? Maybe you can share a bit about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
Lindsay Brunner Physical Therapy provides pelvic floor and orthopedic physical therapy, fitness, and wellness services with an emphasis on prenatal and postpartum care. I offer in-office services in Highland Park and Pasadena, as well as virtual and home visits.
I started this practice in order to create a space that had more compassion, flexibility, and support than the typical healthcare experience. I work one on one with clients to assess and address their concerns, with an emphasis on forging trusting relationships that will help them achieve their best outcomes. As a parent myself, I have a passion for guiding my fellow parents through the physical challenges of birth with empathy.
Though my practice is small, it’s strength has always been lasting relationships with my clients and word of mouth in my community. I enjoy collaborating with other types of practitioners so that I can provide resources to my clients when they have needs beyond my care, and in order to expand my reach to find those who need me.

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
There is so much to see and do in Los Angeles, but I like to take people off the beaten path. I love to visit Barnsdall Art Park, where you can tour Frank Lloyd Wright’s Hollyhock House, check out the art in their gallery, and enjoy a picnic on the hill with a view of the observatory. The Huntington Gardens are another favorite on a sunny day. I would check out Largo or Lodge Room for comedy and music shows. My favorite spots to eat are Cafe Triste in Chinatown and Quarter Sheets in Echo Park. For drinks I always take people to Good Housekeeping and The Hermosillo in Highland Park.

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
I’d like to give a big shout out to my husband, who has provided me with endless support and encouragement as I became a physical therapist, and then as I decided to start my own practice.
