We had the good fortune of connecting with Andy James White and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Andy James, can you share a quote or affirmation with us?
“Be so good they can’t ignore you” -Steve Martin. I love this quote. I don’t really take it as I am trying to be good for anyone else though. It just inspires me to be the best me I can be. I think being authentic and really loving what you do is why people will take notice. Originality and being yourself is the goal to me. I have moments sometimes late at night when I stop and look around at all the artwork I have created, the music I have made, and it hits home how proud I am about who I am in this life and makes me want to create so much more.

Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
My art is a combination of so many different things. I was always creative as a kid through music and art. I played in a hardcore band in the punk rock scene but also loved Jimi Hendrix and Eddie Van Halen. I started doing graffiti once I started hanging out in NYC and was influenced and excited by all the graffiti I saw.

I don’t think getting somewhere in art or music is necessarily easy. You get out of it what you put into it and success is whatever makes you happy about it.

What I’d like the world to know about me is that I have worked hard to overcome some trauma from my upbringing and no matter what I hope everyone knows they can too. There is always hope in the next moment in life. I am rooting for everyone to have the best life. In music it’s always been hard for me to write lyrics and say something. I always let my guitar do the talking for me. The same goes for art which to be able to speak in that way and put it out there in the world is a great gift I am grateful for and love that I can do that. If it speaks to someone or inspires someone then that’s icing on the cake.

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
This is a funny question to me because a lot of people kind of stay in their area in L.A. There is so many different parts of this city and each place has something cool about it.
There is too many great art galleries and museums to name but we are a bit spoiled here with that.
The beach is definitely a great place to be and you can go up to The Getty on the way back for some art and great views. In Hollywood where I live I love exploring Griffith Park and hiking up above the Observatory. L’Antica Pizzeria Da Michele is currently my favorite restaurant in Hollywood.

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
I would like to Shoutout two of my good friends. La Monde Byrd. He has always been a great friend and supporter of all that I have done. He is an actor, writer, director, producer and all around creative. Also Matt Goias. He is a DJ, musician, artist , designer . writer and photographer. The excitement and inspiration that comes from their ongoing support and conversations is something I am very grateful for.
