Meet Tatiana Mekikyan | Content Creator & Social Media Manager

We had the good fortune of connecting with Tatiana Mekikyan and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Tatiana, what led you to pursuing a creative path professionally?
I’ve always been enamored with content creating. When I was a kid, I always remember picking up a camera and just filming. I’d film my family, friends, cousins, we’d make amateur (aka cringy) videos, and I’d edit them on iMovie. It was a funny hobby I started to pick up especially around the time YouTube was blowing up, but at the time there was no content creators, the word didn’t even exist. I also loved the entertainment industry, movies, tv shows, and pop-culture, so it really helped use my imagination when it came to filming and editing.

Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
People thinking doing social media and content creating is easy, well I’m here to debunk because it’s not. It’s such an oversaturated creative career that you really have to be super specific on how you are going to make yourself stand out. I’m a lifestyle, beauty, and at times fashion creator, I really love showing my day to day life, routines, outfit inspiration, and favorite beauty products. Although I’m still continuing to try and grow my platform, I’m very proud of how far I’ve come because it’s not easy. You just have to keep pushing content out until that one video finally hits, and you start building from that. Some challenges I do face is the plateau, it can get discouraging at times when you’re not getting the most views and you worked so hard on that piece of content, but you just got to push through, and who knows maybe later those videos will pick up. I want people to know that it’s never too late to start social media and how important it is for a business. If you’re growing a brand or business, you have to be active on social media, that’s how people connect with you and your story, and it turn they’ll want to support you and your business.

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
First and foremost, we have to go get coffee from community goods, yes the line is long at times depending on the day and time you go, but it’s worth the hype, the coffee is great, and their breakfast sliders are phenomenal. Then, we can take a pilates class at my favorite pilates studio, either at Rise Up Pilates (if they want something super challenging) or Curv’d Studio. If they want to do a shopping day, we either go walking around Melrose, hit a few vintage shops, or go to the best mall which is the Westfield Century City mall, the vibes there are immaculate. Obviously in between I have to take them to Erewhon because I know everyone who visits LA wants to try the Hailey Bieber smoothie, that’s also worth the hype, and their hot bar is also very good. If we’re going out to dinner, my favorite sushi spot is Koi, or overall restaurant is Catch Steak or Casa Madera. Other activities I would take them on is walking around my neighborhood since it’s a more quiet area, hiking, or if there are any fun pop-ups.

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
I have to give a lot of credit to Jasmin Mnasi and Ani Carol who own the marketing agency, Kara Content Marketing. They taught me so much on how to be a better content creator and social media manager. When I started working with them, I still had no clue what exactly I wanted to do in the entertainment business, but the last semester of college, I was hired to be a content creator for them, and it finally clicked that this was my true calling, and they helped me recognize that. With social media today, it works in many realms and industries, especially entertainment, so that’s where I hope to take my social media skills eventually.
