Meet Jayron Afshar | Lash Artist & Ice Cream Shop/Truck owner

We had the good fortune of connecting with Jayron Afshar and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Jayron, what do you attribute your success to?
I believe the key to my success has always been maintaining professionalism. I’m consistently punctual, never cancel appointments, and ensure I treat my customers how I would want to be treated. While my beauty business and ice cream business are very different, the approach to customer care remains the same. Without my customers, there is no business, and I always keep that in mind.

Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
I started my lash business in 2016 after taking a class, though I wasn’t good at first— I even glued my model’s eye shut! But I had paid for the class, and it came with a big kit, so I kept practicing on anyone who would let me. My friends were great sports, letting me work on their lashes. It wasn’t easy—I worked my 9-to-5, then lashed from 6 p.m. to midnight. I was exhausted, but I knew I wanted to work for myself, so I had to master lashes. Eventually, I left my job to lash full-time, and by 2017, I had really honed my skills. I was working from home and at Star Lash two days a week. Back then, there were only a few lash artists in Los Angeles, and we were booked three to four weeks out.
I’ve been in this business for a long time now. Many lash techs come and go because they don’t want to put in the work—they expect it to be easy. What sets me apart is my professionalism. I treat my business like a real job, meaning I stay committed to a schedule. A lot of people start their own business and think they can work whenever they want or take time off when they please. I don’t do that. If I’m not available, my clients don’t get their lashes done, and they’ll go elsewhere. Being on time, never canceling, and putting my customers first has kept my client retention high. In fact, I still have some of the same clients from eight years ago.

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
If my best friend were visiting, the first thing we’d do is grab sushi! I’d take her to Yume in Studio City or Little Iza-Kaya in Sherman Oaks. After that, we’d probably go shopping—Topanga Mall has really leveled up with its high-end stores. Once we’ve shopped, we’d head to a rooftop pool to relax for a bit before dinner. For dinner, it has to be something delicious, so we’d likely head to the westside. Stella would be the perfect spot!

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
I want to dedicate this shoutout to my dear friend, Yris Palmer. She was my mentor in the lash business and the one who taught me how to do lashes in the first place, introducing me to the entire lash industry. Yris not only helped me earn a lot of money, but she also connected me with people I might never have had the chance to meet. I’ll never forget what she did for me. Yes, I put in the hard work, but she gave me the opportunity, and for that, I will always be grateful.
