Meet Geraldin Ferrer | Curly Hair and Lifestyle Content Creator

We had the good fortune of connecting with Geraldin Ferrer and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Geraldin, how do you think about risk?
I see risk as a necessary part of growth, both personally and professionally. For me, taking risks often means stepping out of my comfort zone and trying something new, even if there’s uncertainty. For example, when I started sharing my natural curly hair journey, I was unsure how people would react to content but I still put myself out there. I was scared because I didn’t want to be judged.
That decision to take a risk and share my story not only deepened my connection with my audience but also shaped my career both as a content creator and my role as a leader in the healthcare field. It taught me that risks can lead to meaningful opportunities and that being true to yourself often outweighs the fear of the unknown. Risk-taking continues to inspire my content, reminding me to stay authentic and bold in what I create.

Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
I want the world to know that my story is about embracing who I truly am and finding strength in my authenticity. My journey started with transitioning to natural curly hair—a decision that went beyond just hair and became a personal transformation. It taught me the importance of self-love, resilience, and being proud of the things that make me unique.
During the pandemic, I faced one of the most challenging periods of my life. After a car accident in 2020, I stopped working out, I moved to LA and a month later the world shut down. I started gaining weight and mentally I was not okay. Working out was an outlet for me and little by little I was unhappy with myself—I was unsure of where I was in my life and what I wanted. I didn’t know if being in LA was the right move. I slowly started to dislike that version of myself both physically and mentally. I didn’t like how I looked, and I couldn’t stand seeing myself in videos or pictures. I stopped creating content altogether, and I withdrew from social media. I would post a picture here or there but nothing major. I found myself isolating myself and felt stuck.
I finally overcame this rut when I realized that I needed to prioritize my mental and physical health. I had to snap out of it and look back at alI the wonderful things that were happening around me. I started going back to the gym, eating clean, going to therapy and attending SoulCycle. Little by little, I worked my way out of that dark place and reconnected with my passion for creating and putting my mental health first. I had to find peace, peace within myself and my surroundings. I had to make decisions that were selfish and careless but they got me to a place full of happiness and peace.
Fast forward to now, I’m proud to say I’ve overcome what I now recognize as a difficult period in my life—one that I might even call a bit of a depression. It’s not easy to say that out loud, but it’s part of my story, and I’ve learned so much from it.
The biggest lesson I’ve learned is the importance of putting yourself first—your mental and physical health are the foundation for everything else. I’ve also learned that it’s okay to take a step back, give yourself grace, and come back stronger when you’re ready. This experience taught me resilience, self-love, and the power of small steps toward big changes.
My story is a reminder that growth takes time and courage, but it’s worth it to show up as your most genuine self. I hope to inspire others to embrace their individuality, take risks, and stay confident in their journey, no matter where it leads.

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
My absolute favorite thing to do in Los Angeles is to explore new and trending restaurants. I’m a foodie at heart, and I love checking out the latest hot spots with my girlfriends. Whether it’s indulging in a delicious food, sipping on a cocktail, or simply sharing laughs over dinner, these outings are always such a highlight for me. It’s not just about the food—it’s about the memories we make together.
One of my favorite restaurants in LA is Bacari, I always make it point to bring my besties or my niece who come to visit from the east coast. I was just recently there with girlfriends for dinner and drinks before a movie and it never disappoints. What I love about LA is there is always something to do whether if it’s a pottery class or an R&B event I can say the city has a lot to offer.

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
I’d like to dedicate this shoutout series to all the little girls out there with beautiful curly hair. May they always know that they are beautiful, loved, and cared for. While hair is ultimately just a part of our body, it’s also a part of their image and identity—and their curls are a reflection of their unique beauty. Curly hair is beautiful, and I hope they embrace it with pride and confidence every step of the way.
