We had the good fortune of connecting with Marcus Wooling and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Marcus, what role has risk played in your life or career?
Risk is a powerful catalyst for growth. For me, taking risks has always felt like a leap of faith—but that’s where the magic happens, right? For me, risk isn’t just about throwing caution to the wind; it’s about stepping out of my comfort zone with intention. It’s scary, exciting, and transformative all at once.

In my life and career, risk-taking has been a constant companion. Balancing my passion for dance and modeling with a full-time career in accounting and finance has been anything but predictable. There were times when I wondered if I was biting off more than I could chew. But those risks—whether it was saying “yes” to a new project, chasing an opportunity that seemed just out of reach, or investing time in something uncertain—always taught me something valuable.

It’s not about being fearless; it’s about being brave enough to try. Every time I’ve taken a chance, I’ve learned to trust myself a little more, even if things didn’t go perfectly. Risks have stretched me, challenged me, and ultimately helped me grow into the person I am today. So, while the fear never really goes away, neither does the reward of seeing what’s on the other side.

Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
My career has been a unique journey, one that I wouldn’t trade for anything. It all started when I was a junior in university, double majoring in accounting and dance. That year, I booked my first professional dance job, dropped out of school, and spent the next three years traveling the world. Those years were transformative—immersing myself in different cultures and seeing places I’d only dreamed of growing up in West Virginia.

After an injury, I found myself in Vancouver, having coffee with a friend. I looked up at the PwC building and said, “That’s what I want to do.” I decided to return to university, finish my degrees, and pursue a dual career in dance and accounting. It was always the plan, though the path to get there wasn’t what I’d imagined. Eventually, I graduated and joined a Big 4 audit firm, combining my love for dance with a career in finance.

This journey has been far from easy. I’ve taken risks that stretched me and taught me valuable lessons. One of the biggest takeaways has been learning to embrace my uniqueness. It’s okay not to fit a mold—channeling what makes you different can become your greatest strength. Along the way, I’ve learned to trust myself, even when things didn’t go as planned. My persistence and willingness to take chances have shaped not only my career but the person I am today.

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
If my bestie were in town, the week would be a full-on vibe. We’d start every day with a fitness class—because, obviously, staying snatched is a priority—then hit up a smoothie spot to refuel. After that, it’s straight to the shops for a new lewk. Sure, no one’s seen half of what’s in our closets, but who doesn’t love a fresh fit for the ‘gram?

Breakfast is sacred, so we’d swing by Courage Bagels for the ultimate bagel moment and grab coffee at a cute spot in Venice or West Hollywood. Since they’re visiting, I’d give in to the cliché and take them to one of those TikTok-famous restaurants—because why not?

For the nights, it’s all about dancing and living our best lives. We’d start with drinks at The Abbey or Hi Tops, and when we’re good and warmed up, head to a warehouse party in DTLA for a proper queer night out.

To balance it all out, we’d have a chill day lounging by the pool at Heimat, indulging in a spa day, and then heading home to kiki with old music videos, play games, and scroll through Facebook for some “vintage” laughs about the good ol’ days. It’s giving fun, fab, and full of memories.

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
There have been so many people throughout my life who have helped shape the person I am today—family, dance teachers, mentors, and colleagues. It’s impossible to choose just one. But if I had to give special recognition, it would go to Elaine McLoughlin.

I met Elaine while interning at Wolf Trap in the Accounting and Finance department. During a breakout session, we were paired together, and from that moment, I felt truly seen. Elaine had a way of being present and genuine, and her encouragement pushed me to challenge myself in ways I hadn’t before, both personally and professionally. Her belief in me and her ability to see not just who I was, but who I could become, left a lasting impact. I’ll always be grateful our connection.
