Meet Jennifer Canul | Press on nail artist

We had the good fortune of connecting with Jennifer Canul and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Jennifer, maybe we can start at the very start – the idea – how did you come up with the idea for your business?
I have always loved doing my nails wether it was painting them or trying to learn how to do acrylic I just loved doing nails it’s was my creative outlet besides makeup. When I would do my nails I always got compliments and they were always so surprised I did them myself. I also really loved buying press on nails from the store but I would honestly just buy them to remove the design they already had on just to re do it to something else lol. I remember I even tried to start a nail business doing other people’s nails years ago but I needed more practice their nails did not last at all and I was really scared to mess up their nails or hands so I stopped. One of my Instagram followers was one of my very first buyers for press on nails and I will be honest they were far from perfect but she loved them and I remember from her posting about them I got another customer and then another and that’s how I started my first press on nail business it was called Jennifers creative space I was doing really well with it I had a lot of customers even though I had a lot of screw ups as well with like the paint chipping, nails breaking, nails not fitting etc. But I kept on with my business until the pandemic hit and things started slowing down I tried adding in other things to my business as well like cosmetics and such which kind of made my business boom again but the press on nails was flopping and I eventually just closed it all down. Then this year I started up doing press on nails again with a fresh new name and definitely way better skills. I just wish I had all the love, support, and customers like I had back then but little by little my small business is growing every day and I am just blessed that I can restart and hopefully build up this business again like before.

Can you give our readers an introduction to your business? Maybe you can share a bit about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
Painted by Jenn is a hand painted gel press on nail business. I love nails and I love nail art this is my passion and it was a big goal of mine to employ myself based off of my own talent. It has not been easy there will always be little bumps a long the way but every day I grow with my business. I want people to wear my nails with pride and feel like they just went to the salon. My nails are not expensive at all I don’t want people to feel like they need to break the bank just to have beautiful nails.

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
My favorite spots in California is anywhere where the beach is!

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
I just want to say thank you to all my clients new and old who have supported me and who showed my business any kind of love Painted by Jenn wouldn’t be who it is without them.
Also a huge shout out to my fiance Juan for always supporting me in some way with my business driving me to pop ups, helping me decide on nail art to do, helping me with my website all of it never goes unnoticed.
