We had the good fortune of connecting with Stacy Bernstein and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Stacy, what habits do you feel play an important role in your life?
When I think about this question the first thing that comes to mind is my lifelong experience as an athlete and coach. I was a Division I soccer player, a semi-pro player, and I still play. I am also a nationally certified coach and have coached at all levels. It’s truly been a lifelong journey of honing so many essential personal skills and habits. Much like my athletic journey, the highs and lows of being a founder require a ton of resilience. We are very much learning as we go and the journey is nonlinear. In the moments we get a “no,” make a mistake, and veer away from our vision we always, always bounce back.

Collaboration for me is a must. I have never played individual sports, I always prefer to be part of a team. I love fostering relationships and working alongside other people to grow and build things. It’s so much better together. I could really go on and on about other habits such as work ethic, accountability, problem-solving, etc. These are all habits that I have built my professional foundation on and no doubt have helped me drive the success of my endeavors.

Can you give our readers an introduction to your business? Maybe you can share a bit about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
The mission of All Better Co. is reimagining the first aid aisle with better for you, better for the planet products. From solving our own personal pain points we found the need for products that could heal while not harming your skin or the environment. What sets us apart is that we are committed to providing fiercely effective products with great design and are not harming the planet in the process. We design our products with our children in mind, what would we feel good about putting on their skin. That means our products have no toxic chemicals, no typical allergens, and all the other junk we have been using for so long. We are harnessing the power of plants and naturally occurring chemicals to support, soothe, and heal our bodies.

No part of this has come easy. It will probably come as no surprise that access to capital is a major challenge. Building a sustainably minded business is expensive, from sourcing to raw materials to marketing, and the day-to-day. We are not independently wealthy and our networks are limited, so finding investors is incredibly challenging, especially in this economic environment. The gender gap in deployed capital is something we talk about often, and we have really learned to get creative. One solution we are currently working on is we launched a Purpose Round. You can liken it to crowdfunding except the capital you put in is actually an investment, so the bigger the check the bigger the investment. This makes investing way more accessible to so many more people and it will allow our community and believers to help be part of our growth. These offerings are becoming a very valuable tool for underrepresented founders to gain access to capital. And yet, while this is really exciting to get off the ground it still requires a ton of persistence and determination and so much dedication. What I want people to know about our brand is that we truly want to make better products accessible to more people. From bug bites to scraped knees, to sunburns we want people to know that they can count on us and trust that the products they are reaching for have been made with love, intention, and care for the planet. To know that in the end, we make things ALL BETTER.

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
Hmm, let’s see, one place I would definitely visit would be Huntington Gardens for a beautiful calming walk. Probably an LA-style hike like Fryman or Runyon Canyon for the exercise, view of the city, and people-watching. Then to get my shopping fix I would hunt down the female curated pop-up, I Wanna Thrift With You for some vintage sweatshirts. Of course, you have to head to the beach, so I would probably do a night’s stay at the Malibu Surfrider and watch the sunset and eat dinner on their charming rooftop. Their rooms are equally charming and cozy. Then I would head back and hit one of the local farmer’s markets and stop for lunch at Pizzanna, owned by one of my entrepreneurial inspirations Candace Nelson. After that, we’d be off to shop in my local neighborhood to visit two of my favorite female-owned shops Greenwood Shop for candles, plants and gifts, and then over to DIA Natural Wines. Ironically I don’t drink, but her selection is incredible for hostess gifts. Since we are in the neighborhood I would dip and treat her to a massage at The NOW started by my friend Gara Post. For entertainment, we are of course headed to watch Angel City our NWSL home team, because everyone watches women’s sports 🙂

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
Number 1 is my husband, children, and family. I am so grateful to have the unwavering support from every one of them. They all truly believe in what we are doing and they are our biggest cheerleaders. I am really lucky to be in a partnership that truly works. My Co-Founder Merav and I could not be more different, both personally and professionally. It’s the secret sauce for us. I think our skill sets complement each other well, and we both really respect each other for these differences. If I am the heart of the business, Merav is absolutely the brains of it all. She’s straightforward, efficient, incredible at problem-solving, loves to tinker, and can multitask like nobody else. And one more person who deserves recognition is Whitney, who is the owner of our creative studio. I am so proud of our branding, our brand story, and our packaging design. I had a vision of a brand that is fun, approachable, modern, and stands out all at the same time. Whit and her team are geniuses and they absolutely knocked it out of the park.
