We had the good fortune of connecting with Sara Rogers and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Sara, we’d love to hear more about how you thought about starting your own business?
The inspiration behind creating Natural Glo Airbrush Artistry stemmed from a significant gap in the market. At the time, there wasn’t a trusted destination where clients could receive a premium spray tan combined with exceptional service and outstanding results. The options were limited to spray tan booths or a handful of providers whose results didn’t meet my vision or standards.

After experiencing a spray tan in a booth myself, I immediately thought, There has to be a better way—and I know I can excel at this. I realized that if I felt this way, others likely did too. As someone who loves maintaining a year-round glow but recognized the harmful effects of tanning beds, I decided to explore alternatives. I researched how to become a spray tan artist, took a certification course, and started my journey in 2011.

Initially, I explored offering spray tans, makeup, and styling, but my passion for it waned. However, in 2014, a friend requested a professional spray tan, and I decided to use my existing equipment and tan her in my garage. She was impressed with the results and encouraged me to pursue this as a business, saying it was something I truly excelled at. Inspired by her feedback, I officially launched Natural Glo Airbrush Artistry in 2014, initially working part-time while balancing a 9-to-5 job. When I was unexpectedly laid off, I used six months of unemployment to build the foundation of my business and turn it into a reality.

Natural Glo has always been my passion and purpose. For me, being tanned brings an instant sense of confidence and magic, and I love providing that same feeling to others. Helping people feel comfortable, confident, and radiant in their own skin has become my superpower, and it’s the driving force behind everything I do.

Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
What makes Natural Glo unique is our service goes beyond just a spray tan—it’s a transformative, feel-good experience while only using organic ingredients in our solutions and products. At the core, it’s all about energy. From the moment clients step into our space, they’re met with an uplifting and vibrant atmosphere that every artist on our team wholeheartedly embodies. My creative journey has always felt deeply spiritual, and Natural Glo has always been bigger than me—a reflection of something greater.

Building Natural Glo has felt both natural and aligned, as if the path unfolded effortlessly. I believe that when you’re in alignment with your purpose and operating in a flow state, extraordinary growth happens—and that’s exactly what I’ve experienced with Natural Glo. We’ve cultivated an incredible client base who not only resonate with the vision but have also championed it. Their loyalty and referrals have been instrumental in our success, and I am deeply grateful for every one of them. While I’ve loved every part of this journey, it’s important to note that the success of Natural Glo didn’t happen overnight. Behind the scenes is a decade of hard work, dedication, and persistence—something many don’t see.

Remaining true to myself and the brand’s vision has been essential in shaping Natural Glo’s success within the industry. I graduated from the Fashion Institute of Design & Merchandising in San Francisco in 2005 with a degree in Merchandise Marketing, where I cultivated my passion for consumer behavior, target marketing, and branding. My career in retail, with invaluable training at Bebe, Macy’s, and Victoria’s Secret, further honed my skills.

Spray tanning is a craft I’ve mastered through years of hands-on experience, creating a signature technique that has become the foundation of our consistent and exceptional results. Every skill I’ve acquired, every passion I’ve pursued, has seamlessly come together to build Natural Glo.

Perhaps that’s why it looks effortless—because it’s my purpose, my passion, and a true reflection of who I am. Living authentically and embracing my role as a “super attractor” has been key to Natural Glo’s success and uniqueness. It’s something that cannot be replicated or duplicated, and it’s the driving force behind everything we do.

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
Our flagship location is proudly situated in Sacramento, CA—a city that is thriving and full of vibrant culture. Nestled in the heart of Midtown, our studio is surrounded by an array of incredible local shops and eateries that make the area truly special.

We are fortunate to collaborate with some of Sacramento’s best, including the renowned hair salon Wild Heart Beauty, the stylish boutique Mas Bueno, the talented makeup artist Macmodoe, and the innovative fitness studio Instaphysique. These partnerships reflect our commitment to supporting and connecting with the local community, enhancing the dynamic experience we offer at Natural Glo.

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
I have always been fortunate to have the support of my family, but from day one, my husband, Maurice, has been my strongest advocate. His unwavering encouragement and belief in my vision have been instrumental in bringing Natural Glo Airbrush Artistry to life. I vividly remember sitting on our couch, sharing my thoughts, ideas, and reasons for pursuing this dream. Not once did he doubt me or my vision.

At the time, Maurice held a corporate finance position with benefits, which provided us with the stability I needed to focus on building my business without the added stress. I recall him saying, “Wow, I didn’t realize spray tanning was such a desired or needed service,” as he watched my business take off and grow beyond expectations.

Throughout every stage of Natural Glo’s journey—the ups and downs, the growth of our locations, and the expansion of our services—he has been by my side. His guidance in making financial decisions as the business grew, coupled with his emotional and physical support, has been invaluable. Today, as the CFO of Natural Glo, Maurice continues to play a pivotal role in the business’s success.

Without him, there would be no Natural Glo, and for that, I am forever grateful. Together, we make an incredible team, blending our strengths to build something truly special.
