We had the good fortune of connecting with Divinity Gaines and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Divinity, how do you think about risk?
When I think about risk and how it has impacted my life/career- an inspirational quote comes to mind which states: “You will never reach your true potential living life in comfort and routine. You got to take some risk”. Kylie Francis
I believe ‘risk’ is the fundamental tool in achieving what we desire in our lives. Wellbeing, success, and prosperity can be found in action. Without risk there is no measuring stick for one’s success and/or failures.
Looking at my life and career, It is evident without taking on risk many of my achievements, successful attempts, and challenges were definitely life changing because of risk In 2010 at the age of Eighteen I drove cross county to Los Angeles for an opportunity to audition for Bloc Talent Agency. The trip was a disaster; The car broke down, smoke billowing from both ends of the vehicle, I had no choice but to sleep in a trailer for the duration of my trip, and literally ran out of money taking ‘risk’. One can only imagine the disappointment, frustration, and anger I felt. The end result of this endeavour was such a positive one, it resulted in me getting booked by Bloc Talent Agency afterall. Within the next two years I began booking international tours, dancing for 106 and park on the BET network. Commercial work, TV, stage and off broadway performances; what appeared to be risk in turn was opportunity in waiting.
One of my biggest accomplishments in NYC was auditioning and becoming a “Knicks City Dancer.” The Knick City Dancers are the official dance team for The New York Knicks- Professional basketball team of the NBA- located in New York City. Risk allowed me the opportunity to dance to sell out crowds every night at Madison Square Garden, do charity work as a Knicks City Dancer, involvement in fundraisers, commercial work, and television.
I have often heard the saying “The greater the risk the bigger the reward” I believe this is true because after three years of doing so many incredible things as a Knick City Dancer I decided once again to take on greater risk/opportunities and move out to California permanently. It would have been very easy to stay on the East Coast. The jobs I was landing were beyond my wildest dreams, the money was great, most of my family and friends live in the northeast. Living in that particular comfort zone to many would look like success, and in many ways, were well earned accomplishments. I found myself wanting more from myself through education and a new environment to grow. Moving to California allowed me to focus on furthering my education, helping to run a successful fitness studio, and creating my own non-profit foundation.
The biggest risk and career advancement to date was to start my own company ‘Divinity In Motion,” the formation of this company was, and is, the desire to unlock one’s own divinity thur wellness and healing. The risk of starting my own company has allowed me many opportunities for my company to flourish. I am now an international teacher online, as well as traveling the world as a fitness instructor, dancer teacher, and speaker. Without moving out of my own comfort zone, taking on risks, that is aligned with my passions; for pure potential. The dreams I have dreamed, and goals that I have accomplished are a definite result of me taking on risk in my career.

Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
About Divinity In Motion – After traveling to Bali on a spiritual growth retreat I found my Divinity. Divinity is defined as: The quality or state of being divine. My mission is to help others connect to one’s mind, spirit, and body through dance and movement. The goal is to reach a divine state of wellbeing with knowledge, spirituality, and training. I believe we all have a divine purpose that is dormant inside of us. It is our job to unlock one’s sense of purpose, keep it in motion, and to create pure potentiality in our lives.
