We had the good fortune of connecting with Christina Liu and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Christina, have there been any changes in how you think about work-life balance?
From school to work life, I’ve always aimed to keep a good balance. In school, I spent more time on studies because of tighter schedules. I tried to find time for exercise, hanging out with friends, or reading. I believe having a positive mindset boosts work efficiency and creativity. Even with less personal time in school, it’s important to make some time for personal activities.

Now that I’m working, I have more control over my time, and the line between work and personal life is clearer. I’m grateful to have more time to reflect, travel, or just relax.

Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
I’m a UI/UX Designer, having graduated from ArtCenter College of Design last year. My passion in design revolves around storytelling through visuals and crafting seamless user experiences. Growing up in an artistic family provided a natural path towards this career.

However, narrowing down my focus in design wasn’t easy. I’ve long wrestled with whether to pursue graphic design, UI/UX design, product management, or other fields. I’m someone who finds joy in many things and excels in them, which made choosing a direction challenging. One day, a teacher advised me to choose something that truly energizes me naturally. That’s when I decided to focus on visual design.

Now, I happily engage in both UI/UX and graphic design, appreciating their visual aspects equally.

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
My favorite spot is a cafe in Ktown called Yeems. As I mentioned earlier, I aim to maintain a work-life balance during busy school periods. One method I’ve found effective is doing homework in coffee shops. I enjoy visiting various coffee spots because it allows me to complete my assignments while getting some fresh air. Yeems serves excellent pour-over coffee and brunch, which makes the experience very enjoyable for me.

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
I’d like to give a shoutout to the book “Atomic Habits”. It’s had a profound impact on my life. I enjoy setting goals and making plans, but in the past, achieving a goal would leave me feeling empty, or failing to achieve it would frustrate me. My happiness was tied to the end result. However, this book taught me to focus on building a life system. Goals serve as milestones within the system, but consistently doing the right things to build that system is more important than achieving any specific goal. When you persist in doing the right things, you’ll eventually reach your destination. Plus, you can find joy in every moment spent doing constructive tasks.
