We had the good fortune of connecting with Katherine Shadley and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Katherine, is there something that you feel is most responsible for your success?
The most important factor behind the success of Grande Maison by Linen Society, is our unwavering dedication to celebrating the beauty of handmade goods and making them accessible to everyone. At our core, we believe in the timeless artistry of fine craftsmanship and the value of bringing these incredible pieces together in one place.

But beyond the products, what truly sets us apart is our understanding that we’re in the people business. Relationships are at the heart of everything we do—whether it’s with our talented purveyors, whose skill and passion inspire us daily, or with our cherished clients, who trust us to enhance their homes and lives. We strive to cultivate genuine, lasting connections, and we view every interaction as an opportunity to deepen those bonds.

The experience we provide is everything. It’s not just about offering fine linens and homewares; it’s about creating a space where people feel cared for, understood, and inspired. Our complimentary services are designed to support these efforts, ensuring that every client feels valued and every purveyor feels celebrated. This authenticity and commitment to meaningful relationships have been the foundation of our success and will continue to guide us as we grow.

What should our readers know about your business?
Our business is built on more than 90 years of heritage, a legacy that has shaped who we are today. What truly sets us apart is our unwavering love and commitment to everyone we work with. Our customers inspire and challenge us in the best possible ways, constantly pushing us to grow, innovate, and serve them better.

As you can imagine, being in business for nearly a century hasn’t always been smooth sailing. We’ve weathered countless challenges—from recessions to pandemics—and each one has taught us invaluable lessons about perseverance. Through these experiences, we’ve honed the art of pivoting, learning how to adapt and remain nimble while staying true to our core values. These moments of reinvention have deepened our understanding of what matters most: the relationships we build and nurture along the way.

At the heart of our brand is a noble cause—the celebration of handmade goods. It’s an extraordinary privilege to connect our clients with the artistry and craftsmanship of the makers we work with. Our story is one of honoring tradition while embracing innovation, always driven by a passion for creating meaningful connections. We want the world to know that behind every piece we offer is a deep sense of care, a commitment to excellence, and a genuine love for the people and stories that make it all possible.

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
If my best friend were visiting, we’d have an unforgettable week in the heart of the West Hollywood Design District, where our Grande Maison showroom is lucky to call home. This area is a feast for the senses, surrounded by some of the most innovative tastemakers in the country—dare I say, the world.

We’d kick off the adventure with dinner at Craig’s, an iconic American restaurant where the food is just as incredible as the chef’s inspiring story. For a lighter, plant-based vibe, we’d head to Gracias Madre, where the vegan cuisine is as vibrant as the ambiance. And of course, no trip would be complete without a stop at The Ivy, just outside the district, for its iconic charm and legendary patio dining.

During the day, we’d explore the countless art galleries that make this area so special Hamilton Selway being one of the absolute standouts. There’s nothing quite like being surrounded by pieces that challenge and inspire. Shopping here is also an experience in itself—boutiques filled with treasures that you won’t find anywhere else, and every store feels like a curated masterpiece.

But it’s not just about the places; it’s about the people. The West Hollywood Design District is home to some of the most passionate, interesting, and welcoming individuals you could hope to meet. Whether you’re connecting over a shared love of art, design, or just good conversation, it’s the kind of community that leaves a lasting impression.

By the end of the week, my best friend wouldn’t just be well-fed and well-entertained—they’d be totally inspired by the energy, creativity, and warmth of this incredible area. It’s a place that feels like the perfect mix of sophistication and soul.

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
I’d like to dedicate this shoutout to Tim O’Hearn, the Owner of our company. His deep love for the incredible talents of the artists and makers we work with has been the guiding light of our mission. Tim’s unwavering commitment to honoring their craftsmanship and nurturing genuine relationships with everyone we collaborate with has set the foundation for everything we do.

I also want to extend my heartfelt gratitude to the extraordinary makers and artisans whose generational talents and dedication to their craft make everything we do possible. Without their creativity, skill, and passion, we wouldn’t have the privilege of being the conduit that connects their beautiful work to so many who cherish and enjoy it. They are the true heart of our story, and we are endlessly inspired by them.
