Meet Tiffani Rooney | Marketing Maven, Event Curator, & Pop Culture Commentator

We had the good fortune of connecting with Tiffani Rooney and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Tiffani, the decisions we make often shape our story in profound ways. What was one of the most difficult decisions you’ve had to make?
The most difficult decision I constantly have to make is knowing when to step back and take time for my mental health. When it comes to building a brand, the expectation is to have a constant “hustle mentality”. Though consistency is key, I think at times the hustle mindset can lead to burn out and a lack of creativity.
I believe in quality over quantity. So even though I could easily push myself beyond my capacity, I would much rather take my time to put out content that I am proud of.
In addition to that, when taking said step back, it can often feel as though the world is passing you by and that you’re falling behind your peers. However the most important thing to do is to listen to what works for YOU and not compare yourself to the people around you.

Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
I started my career in 2014 as a Production Assistant working for Keeping Up with the Kardashians thinking that I wanted to pursue a career in reality in television. I had the opportunity to return to the same company, Bunim-Murray, after college where I got to work on Keeping Up With the Kardashians again as well as shows such as The Challenge, Ball in the Family, Total Divas, among others. After leaving that company, I worked at another reality tv company, Purveyors of POP, where I worked on The Real Housewives of Miami, Married to Medicine, and Ex On the Beach.
However after a while I decided that I no longer felt a connection to the world of reality television. So I decided to make a career move to the world of marketing! I was lucky enough to land a role at a marketing agency where I was working on multiple high level AT&T campaigns. Then I had the opportunity to serve as a Project Manager now running AT&T campaigns when hired to work for their internal studio.
As someone who is a naturally hard worker and always up for the challenge, the work was never the challenging part. For me, the difficult part has always been dealing with management with inflated egos. Honestly we live in a world where many under qualified people are appointed to positions of power, and unfortunately at times there isn’t much we can do about it aside from keep your proverbial side of the street clean.
Though sometimes speaking up in the workplace can lead to a hostile work environment when working with the wrong people, I still think it’s important to stick up for yourself in a respectful manner in every situation. Luckily when you work with a good team, this isn’t something to worry about! I’m glad that I’ve experienced the latter more often than not.
(I actually am looking for a new role at the moment so if anyone is hiring a Project Manager I’m available!!!)

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
Oh boy this is difficult, but for the ultimate weekend, this is what I would plan! Friday night, we would go to Gold Line in Highland Park to hear their vinyl DJ’s spin some throwback tunes. When it gets too crowded there, we can round our night out over at Highland Park Bowl.
Then we’d wake up on Saturday and check out some local flea markets like Melrose Flea or Black Market Flea. We could maybe even check out the most recent exhibit at The Broad and grab some food at Grand Central Market afterwards.
Lastly on Sunday, we could check out one of my favorite places in DTLA, Smorgasburg! There’s sooo many options so there isn’t any way someone can leave disappointed! One of my favorite vendors is Evil Cooks. They serve these DELICIOUS octopus al pastor tacos that they call “Poseidon Tacos”. Definitely an acquired taste for some, but I crave them quite often!
Yes I know this all sounds quite basic, but I’m a gal of simple pleasures, LOL!

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
The two most important women in my life deserve a long overdue shout out. Those two women are my mom and my grandma! I have been lucky enough to have two very strong women support me through the highs and lows of life since the day I was born. When I was younger I definitely took this for granted, but as life naturally gets increasingly more difficult, I’m so grateful that they are both only a phone call away.
As you grow older, you realize that many people have quite complex relationships with their family. I’m very fortunate that isn’t the case with my mom and my grammy!
