We had the good fortune of connecting with Ar’Tavia Harris and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Ar’Tavia, what role has risk played in your life or career?

Life is full of risk. We are programmed from the time we are born to take conventional risk. I did not get a chance to make a decision on which conventional risk I would program myself to take early in life. But, once I became more aware of my autonomy I begin to choose risk that lined up with my desires for life. I’ve taken many significant risk some I’m not proud of , and others I am. I’m proud of the risk I took when I stepped away from my nursing career to pursue a career in beauty. A career in beauty has brought me an immense amount of joy and excitement. I enjoy bringing my client’s visions to life, while also making them feel beautiful. It is such a blessing to wake up and create magic for a living.

Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
My work is performed on sets, photo shoots and outside spaces for prep. I enjoy preparing hair pieces in a room full of creative hairstylist with good snacks and music. I’m most proud when I see the photos and videos of my work once the project is completed. Completed project often times remind me of the steps it took to get to where I am today. It was very challenging to get to wear I am. The challenges have taught me the importance of perseverance. Because I kept praying and working when I grew weary I’m here today.

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.

If I were to show my best friend around LA for the day I would invite her to breakfast at CJ’s cafe. After breakfast we would go on a bike ride near Venice Beach with a bike rental. After a bike ride we would find a fruit stand nearby to enjoy near the beach. Lastly we would end our night with dinner and drinks at Sage Plant Based Bistro & Brewery.

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
I want to dedicate my shout out to my supportive husband Da’Tron Harris. I would like to thank Kim Kimble, Sabrina Porsche and Nakia Rachon for all of the teaching an mentorship.
